Why Everton should reignite their interest in Domenico Berardi?

According to last year’s report from the Sun, Everton were interested in signing Sassuolo forward Domenico Berardi. However, a deal didn’t come into fruition and the Toffees seemingly moved on from the Italian.

Everton have had a poor campaign as they currently lie ninth in the table. Marco Silva’s appointment brought a lot of joy and a sense of optimism amongst the fans but things haven’t gone according to the script. And while there has been a little change in the Toffees’ style of play, failure to get positive results against the ‘Big Six’ has been a major issue under Silva.

The Toffees have lacked goals this season, a constant and ruthless goalscorer in their ranks. Neither Cenk Tosun nor Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been prolific in front of the goal, while Richarlison has looked threatening on the left rather through the middle. Production from the right wing has been very minimal as Theo Walcott has struggled massively for form.

Ademola Lookman has done well whenever given opportunities, yet Silva has been reluctant to hand him a starting role. Hence, it’s important for Silva to solve his right-wing woes ahead of the next campaign and Everton would be wise to reignite their interest in Domenico Berardi.

Predominantly a right-winger, Domenico Berardi also thrives in the no.10 role or as a secondary striker. But the Italian has always been a winger, and his best position is undoubtedly on the right, where he can use his great speed, trickery and lethal left foot. A quick, pacy, agile and creative player, the 24-year-old’s passing and finishing skills are absolutely top-notch and his crossing abilities are fantastic as well.

Berardi is an expert dribbler with exceptional technique with the ball at his feet. He operates with a lot of pace, power and dynamism and is a player who can produce something special from his left foot. The Italian is industrious, inventive and can exploit the smallest of gaps to torment any defences.

Not to forget, his ability to hold the ball in tightest of areas and deliveries from set-pieces remain second to none. With players like Sigurdsson, Bernard and Richarlison alongside him, Domenico Berardi could take Everton’s attack to another level.

Furthermore, he’s just 24 and has his best years ahead of him. Without any second thoughts, therefore, Silva should prioritise signing the Sassuolo star this summer to make a statement ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
