Everton linked to Solly March – Do they need him?
According to TEAMtalk (h/t Liverpool Echo), Everton are one of the clubs who have shown an interest in Solly March of Brighton. However, any deal would be dependent on March being offered and agreeing to a new contract with his current club. Leeds United and West Ham are the other clubs interested.
Profile
Born in England, March began his journey with Lewes FC before joining Brighton’s U18 side in 2011. He made his debut in the 2013/14 campaign and helped the Seagulls get promoted to the top-flight. Since then, he has been a regular member of the squad, going on to make 188 appearances for the side. During that time, he has scored 12 goals and assisted 20 more (source – Transfermarkt).
He established himself as an integral member of the squad and was crucial in helping his side maintain their top-flight status in the last few years. However, last season, he managed to make just 19 league appearances under Graham Potter.
The Englishman has made a few appearances for the national team’s youth sides but hasn’t been called up to the senior side yet.
March can be a good squad option for Everton
When Everton signed an entirely new midfield of James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure, there was a feel-good factor among the fans. Even the results were going in the team’s favour.
Yet, as the first-team suffered some injuries and suspensions, their form went for a toss and a lack of quality options in the squad came to the fore. It is clear that the likes of Fabian Delph, Alex Iwobi and Gylfi Sigurdsson aren’t quite up to the mark when it comes to chipping in on a rotational basis.
A player like Solly March would fit well in this situation. Capable of playing as a wide midfielder on either flank, March would not only provide a good rotational option but also allow Ancelotti to alter his tactics.

In Solly March, Everton would get a Premier League experienced player who has seen and done it all for Brighton. While the 26-year-old is unlikely to displace any of the starters when they are fit, he can be a good option to call from the bench, to be used on a rotational basis or cover for any injured players.
