Everton Opinion: Why the Toffees should go all out for Andreas Skov Olsen?

According to a report from The Sun, Everton are one of the clubs interested in signing FC Nordsjælland hotshot, Andreas Skov Olsen.

The 19-year-old winger has ripped it up in Denmark with 22 goals this season. His rich exploits haven’t gone unnoticed, with Tottenham, Barcelona and Bayern Munich also keen to secure his signature.

Even though Tottenham are leading the race for Andreas Skov Olsen, who is about to enter the final year of his contract, Everton must aim to beat their Premier League rival for the youngster’s services.

Everton’s struggles in front of goal this past season aren’t a secret anymore. Cenk Tosun endured a dismal campaign, managing just a handful of goals for the Toffees. His lacklustre form in front of goal saw the majority of goalscoring responsibility fall onto the young shoulders of Dominic Calvert-Lewin. But the young Calvert-Lewin blew hot and cold which forced Marco Silva to resort to utilising Richarlison up front.

Although the move worked to a certain extent, Everton’s problem of scoring goals were consistent throughout the campaign. Thus, a new striker has to be high on manager Silva’s wishlist for the summer. The Portuguese tactician can also do with some reinforcements out wide, given that that likes of Theo Walcott and Ademola Lookman struggled to provide consistency.

And that is exactly why a talented player like Andreas Skov Olsen should be a good signing for the Merseyside outfit. The Dane was in electric form for FC Nordsjælland this past season and rightly deserves all the plaudits and attention he’s got.

The exciting wide-man does have an exceptional ability on the ball and is never scared to take on his man. Olsen is an impressive dribbler, has solid pace to burn and his direct play makes him such a dazzling player to watch.

The left-footed winger usually operates on the right flank, which helps him cut inside on his favoured foot and test the goalkeeper from distance, whilst his nimble footwork and pace allow him to run in behind defences and create crossing opportunities for himself.

Everton’s move for Olsen makes sense for several reasons. The young Dane will be able to provide more width and penetration than Walcott from the right-wing. Secondly, his delicate footwork, intricate passing and ability to create chances will undoubtedly revamp Everton’s creative department. Furthermore, Olsen’s pace will also make him a fantastic counter-attacking outlet.

Verdict

Available for only £10m, Everton simply cannot miss out on the signing of the exciting and richly-talented Olsen. He is still a raw product but at the age of just 19, the Dane could be a smart investment for Silva’s Toffees, who aim to dethrone one of the top-six next season.
