Everton Opinion: Tammy Abraham would be a perfect signing for the Toffees

According to The Sun, Everton have set their sights on Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham in the summer, with reports claiming that the Toffees are chasing a £25million deal for the 21-year-old Englishman.

Abraham has caught the eye with his scintillating run of form on his loan spell at Aston Villa, registering a staggering 25 goals and 3 assists from 37 appearances for the Lions in the Championship. In fact, he has been one of the key driving forces behind Villa’s late resurgence in the Championship and has helped Deam Smith’s side into a promotion playoff place.

The Sun understands that Aston Villa would like to keep Abraham at the club, though the Lions would need to secure promotion to the Premier League through the playoffs to have a real chance at this deal.

Wolves were linked with a move for the highly-rated 21-year-old back in January and Nuno Santo’s side will be expected to reignite their interest in the summer, while Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig have also been credited with an interest in the 1-cap English international (h/t Sun).

This is not the first time, though, that Abraham has impressed on loan, with the youngster having spent fruitful loan spells at Swansea City and Bristol City in the Championship earlier in his career.

To put things into perspective, a move to the Premier League in the summer is very much on the cards for the talented centre-forward, though Chelsea’s impending transfer ban might have an impact on his future.

Nevertheless, Everton can do themselves a world of good by striking a deal for Tammy Abraham at the end of the season, as he has proved time and again that he is more than capable of making the step up to the Premier League.

Everton have given their fans something to cheer about with victories over Arsenal and Man United in recent weeks but Marco Silva will be well aware of the lack of a prolific centre-forward in his ranks, something that has been a major Achilles Heel for the Toffees in the current campaign.

Although Dominic Calvert-Lewin has chipped in with some valuable goals over the last couple of months, a replacement for big-money flop Cenk Tosun remains high on the manager’s wishlist for the summer.

Oumar Niasse might have ended his hopes of playing for Everton again after a lacklustre loan spell at Cardiff City and the Toffees should look for fresh faces in the summer transfer window.

The likes of Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson have shared a total of 26 goals and 6 assists between them in the Premier League and it is high time for the club to take the pressure off their shoulders.

Abraham has shown strong signs of excellence very early in his career and Everton have every reason to believe that he can be a long-term solution to their No.9 woes. The Toffees have failed to find a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who joined Man United a couple of seasons back, and Abraham has the talent and the potential to light up Goodison Park in the years to come.

Blessed with the poaching instincts of an old-school centre-forward and the flamboyance of a modern-day striker, Abraham’s physicality and aerial ability should add another dimension to Everton’s attack.

The Englishman has not only proven himself to be a clinical finisher in front of goal at Aston Villa but he has worked on the rough edges in his game as well, taking a step closer towards emerging as a finished article.

A strong finish to the season might see Everton secure a Europa League qualification spot but they need more firepower in their attack to close the gap on the top-six next season. Abraham might just be the man to provide that ruthlessness up front, as the Toffees look to build a strong core of first-team players under Marco Silva.
