Why Everton should make a move for Davide Frattesi this summer

According to ForzaRoma via the Boot Room (h/t Daily Post), Everton are interested in signing Sassuolo youngster Davide Frattesi.

Davide Frattesi, 20, came through the youth ranks at AS Roma but the club sold him to Sassuolo in 2017. He hasn’t played a league game for Sassuolo and was shipped out on loan to Ascoli in Serie B last season, where he made 33 appearances and put in some impressive displays.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan with Serie B side Empoli and has enjoyed a solid season, racking up five goals and two assists in 27 appearances. The report (h/t Daily Post) adds that apart from Everton, the youngster has also been linked with his hometown club AS Roma and Juventus.

Meanwhile, Everton enjoyed the new manager bounce when Carlo Ancelotti walked in to replace Marco Silva in December. Of late, however, the Toffees have struggled to get positive results and are currently 12th in the league table after a three-match winless streak.

Ancelotti had the chance to sign players during the January transfer window but he chose to put faith in the players available to him. This has not helped them in the league as they have fallen short of players in a couple of areas. One of those is the midfield, where Tom Davies and Fabian Delph haven’t made much of an impact and Morgan Schneiderlin has struggled for form and fitness.

Andre Gomes has returned stronger than ever from the horrific ankle fracture he suffered against Tottenham. Jean-Philippe Gbamin has been unfortunate with injuries, managing only two Premier League outings in his debut campaign at Goodison Park. Therefore, the manager should prioritize strengthening the midfield and young Davide Frattesi would be a viable option for the club.

The Italian U21 international has been rapidly establishing himself as one of the most exciting young talents in Italy. An all-action midfielder, Frattesi has scored five times during a loan spell at Serie B outfit Empoli this season.

Apart from goals, he has also registered two assists which clearly suggest the youngster has plenty to offer in the final third.

Frattesi would be adding depth to Everton’s midfield unit should they sign him. He has shown his ability to perform consistently in Serie B with Ascoli and Empoli and although Premier League football is a different kettle of fish, the 20-year-old would be a valuable long-term asset to Everton if he is able to replicate the same form he has shown in the last two seasons in Italy.

Frattesi garnering interest from some of Serie A’s top clubs as well as Everton (h/t Daily Post) speaks volumes of his talent and potential. He is a rising star in Italian football and the Toffees should pounce to sign him up.

Verdict

It would be excellent if Everton manage to lure Frattesi to Goodison Park in the summer. He may not walk into the starting XI right away, but his presence would bring healthy competition within the team next season.
