Skip Bayless’ post-Shannon Sharpe future has gotten a little clearer, as the ‘Undisputed’ host announced Thursday that rapper Lil Wayne will be appearing for a weekly segment on the show. Following Sharpe’s departure from the show in June after seven years, Bayless has yet to announce a permanent co-host for the program – which will return on August 28 from a two-month hiatus.
However, we now know that at least some of Sharpe’s previous airtime will be filled by Wayne – real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. – who Bayless called his ‘brother.’ ‘He is so deep when it comes to sports,’ Bayless said on his podcast. ‘He doesn’t yell or scream, but he does get emotional. And you hang on his every word because trust me he has thought through every single word. ‘I like to think that I see things and say things that others don’t,’ Bayless added.
“Wayne is my match – that’s why I love him so much. That’s why we text so much about sports. We’re kindred spirits, but we do see things differently, but very deeply.” Bayless said that the five-time Grammy winner may not always be in studio for the show due to his touring schedule, as the New York Post noted, but promised a 12-15 minute segment each week with the rapper. ‘He is heart and soul into the relaunch,’ Bayless said.

There was also an interesting update issued about Bayless’ ex-partner Sharpe late last month.
ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith – who pioneered the debate format on ‘First Take’ with Bayless – admitted to wanting Sharpe as his co-host, and confirmed that discussions were taking place over potentially adding the NFL Hall of Famer to the show.
Since Max Kellerman departed ‘First Take’ in 2021, Smith has debated a rotating cast of pundits and ex-athletes including J.J. Redick and Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo of late.
