What happened between Drake and Odell Beckham Jr? Learn all there is to know about if there is beef between the two.
Odell Beckham Jr. is widely considered to be one of the best football players of all time. Beckham Jr is still making headlines despite not playing as much as he wants to in the NFL anymore. The wide receiver took to Twitter last year to share his thoughts on Drake’s collaboration with fellow rapper 21 Savage. “DRAKE is just….. I mean ion even kno what to say anymore,” the former New York Giants wide receiver tweeted.
Drake went after a lot of fellow rappers, including Megan Thee Stallion and Kanye West, in the album. The Canadian-born rapper even went after the husband of recently retired tennis superstar Serena Williams, Alexis Ohanian. Even despite their beef now, there was a point in time when Beckham Jr. and Drake were so close that the rapper even wrote a poem for the wideout. The poem came after the Los Angeles Rams’ victory in Super Bowl 56 over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Drake posted the poem on his Instagram page. The Grammy Award-winning rapper wrote: “I wish I got my flowers when everything wasn’t rosey/How I’m supposed to smell em when everyone’s being nosy/Pictures of me victorious they making with Adobe make me thankful that a trophy was never what made me cozy.” Drake added: “For now, I just want to feel something/After that I wanna heal something/And after that I wanna build something/But today I just fulfilled something @obj.” The post has since been deleted.
OBJ, meanwhile, made a cameo appearance in Drake’s April 2020 music video, ‘Laugh Now, Cry Later. Though things might be difficult between the pair right now, the footballer and the rapper certainly shared better times.
How much of a friendship did Odell Beckham Jr and Drake share?
Beckham did an interview with Ronda Rousey for DraftKings back in 2016. They shot an episode of Face 2 Face. In the episode, both the athletes discuss some of their infamous photographs. During the episode, the UFC Hall of Famer pulled out a picture of OBJ with none other than Drake himself. The athlete then told everybody about their bond.
The episode of Face 2 Face started with both athletes discussing their cover appearance for the video game of their sport. After a few wild and bizarre pictures, Ronda Rousey pulled up an iconic shot. It was a photo of Odell Beckham Jr with his friend Drake. Both of them were wearing baseball jerseys. The picture was from a charity celebrity softball game by Drake. He invited OBJ to be a part of the match-up. It was the start of their friendship.
Instantly, after looking at the picture, Beckham said, “That’s my guy right there.” He adds, “That was the first time we really like hung out and stuff like that. It was that whole weekend and just somebody who I’m sure you can relate to. Somebody whose mindset is the same as yours and they want nothing but success. They want to be the best. We just clicked on a level like that, and this really was a start of a becoming friendship that’ll, you know, carry through a lifetime.”
Did Odell Beckham Jr and Drake live together?
In 2016, there was all sorts of chatter that Drake and Odell Beckham Jr. were living together even though they had plenty of money to have their own homes. The main source of this gossip was Beckham himself, who kept making it clear that his current residence was Drake’s Calabasas mansion. Seven years later, The Ravens receiver cleared up what went down.
“Well, I think people have a misunderstanding of that. He was actually on tour and I was living there. Everyone was like, ‘Oh, they’re roommates!’ That wasn’t really it,” Beckham Jr. told GQ. He went on to say that he and Drake are great friends, but there was just never an Odd Couple (or more) situation going on. In fact, the pair have even been sued together.
When were Drake and Odell Beckham Jr sued?
Bennett Sipes claimed in a 2019 lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, he was at Delilah nightclub in WeHo when there was a confrontation inside between himself and the defendants.
When he attempted to leave the VIP area, he says Drake gave the “throat slash” hand gesture. As he was attempting to enter the restroom, he says he was attacked by Younes Bendjima, Kourtney Kardashian’s ex, along with members of Drake and Beckham Jr’s entourage. Sipes said he continues to incur medical bills and suffers “extreme mental anguish and physical pain.”
A source at the club told TMZ Sipes “talked smack” as he approached the group. Sipes filed a police report, but changed his mind and dropped it… at least criminally.
