Recently Netflix got Chris Rock to do a live comedy special on their streaming services and in his comedy, he responded to the slap by making fun of star Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett. Chris Rock spoke in public for the first time about the Slap Gate scandal.

You know, Will Smith, he’s got a great life, but I don’t think Will Smith can act his way out of a paper bag,” was the punchline of the joke. The line was cut out of the Netflix special to just keep the first portion of the sentence, leaving out the part about Smith’s acting abilities.

Several people are incensed by Netflix’s decision to restrict Chris’ jokes because they believe he went too far with some of his jokes.

According to Smith’s wife Chris Rock is obsessed with her and can do anything to ruin her reputation.

Will Smith has addressed the controversy directly in reaction to it. Smith expressed sadness at the choice to take the joke out of the program in a message to the media, but he also accepted the need for sensitivity in comedy.

Smith was allegedly “hurt and embarrassed” by Chris Rock’s remarks in his most recent Netflix special. Getty Pictures Will apologized to Chris and asked him to forget about it, the insider continued. Smith apparently thinks that showing Rock’s special on Netflix was a “distasteful” decision.

The event serves as a reminder of the ongoing discussion over the boundaries of artistic freedom in the age of social media, however, it is unclear whether Netflix will suffer any further backlash over its decision to suppress Rock’s joke.
