The Northern Regional branch of the Thai government stated that the cause of the demise was a head injury due to an accident in the past. Still, no additional information has been provided yet. Family members of Duangpetch Promthep were heartbroken when they heard the news of their boy’s death. Before the temple sent condolences to Duangpetch on social media, his mother contacted the Wat Doi Wao temple in his homeland of Chiang Rai, writing: “May Dom’s soul rest in peace.”

Zico Foundation, which had assisted Duangpetch in getting a scholarship to study in England, also sent its sympathies on Facebook. Last year he was enrolled in Brooke House College Football Academy in Leicestershire while he was only 17 at the time and was the caption of the Thai team. He shared a post on Facebook with the caption, “Today my dream has come true,” and six months later, this heartbreaking incident took place.

Duangpetch’s friends also shared condolences on Facebook. One of his friends who survived the Thai cave incident wrote, “Rip my dear friend. The 12 of us have been through a lot of things together, sadness, happiness, risk of death and many difficulties together. You told me to wait and see when you join the national team. I always believed that you can do it. When we met last time before going to England, I still told you jokingly that I have to ask for your signature when I come back. Rest in peace, my friend. We will always be 12 of us.”

One of his teammates, Titan Chanin Viboonrungruang, wrote: “Brother, you told me that we would be achieving our football dream… if the next world is real, I want us to play football together again.”
