Enough is enough: It’s time for Everton to offload these 3 big names including injury-prone 27-year-old

Everton have been pushing hard to break into the top 6 in recent years, yet they haven’t been able to achieve that feat for the past three seasons, despite spending heavily and hiring some top managers. With the appointment of Marco Silva as their new head coach, Everton will look to finish in the top 6 next season.

An area where Silva will need to work is offloading players who aren’t helping the club. Here are 3 players Everton should offload in the summer.

Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney has been a legend of the beautiful game, but it’s clear now that his career at the top level is coming to an end. The former Manchester United player returned to Everton amidst a lot of fanfare last summer.

He began his career at the Merseyside club before joining the Red Devils in 2004. The 32-year-old failed to make his mark upon his return to Goodison Park, with the Englishman managing just 10 goals in 31 Premier League games last season.

Rooney has been linked with a move to MLS in the summer transfer window and Silva has already indicated that he is not opposed to the idea.

James McCarthy

James McCarthy struggled with injuries last season as he managed to make just four Premier League appearances. And the Irishman could be sold in the summer to make room for new signings.

The midfielder currently finds himself way down the pecking order at Goodison Park, and a move away from the club could suit both parties involved.

McCarthy’s limited ability on the ball and lack of dynamism is not suited to Silva’s style of play, and Everton should look to offload him in the summer, with Crystal Palace interested in the midfielder.

Ramiro Funes Mori

Funes Mori also struggled with injuries last season, and the Argentine defender was sidelined for the majority of the 2017/18 campaign. The 27-year-old, who made just four Premier League appearances last season, has been linked with a move to Mexican outfit Monterrey.

The defender is unlikely to be in Silva’s scheme of things and a move away from Everton is looking increasingly likely. Funes Mori’s departure could also set the ball rolling for Everton in their bid to sign Newcastle United’s Jamaal Lascelles.
