Brighton must offload Jurgen Locadia and Ben White in January

Brighton and Hove Albion has had a decent season so far. Having accumulated 21 points from 17 games, the Seagulls currently sit 13th in the Premier League standings. Chris Hughton’s side has really given the other mid-table teams a run for their money as opposed to the previous season where they were fighting the relegation battle.

The Seagulls have the headlines in the summer with the club-record £17million signing of Iranian star Alireza Jahanbakhsh but the former AZ Alkmaar man has struggled to hit the ground running in the Premier League.

The 35-year-old evergreen centre-forward Glenn Murray has led Brighton’s challenge in the Premier League this season, scoring 8 goals so far and summer recruit Florin Andone has also come to the party in recent weeks.

The Seagulls have some quality players in their ranks and they are more than capable of finishing in the top ten. However, they can certainly improve their chances of a top-ten finish by bringing in some fresh faces in January.

Here are 2 players that they should offload to make way for new arrivals:-

1. Jurgen Locadia

Brighton signed the Dutchman from PSV Eindhoven for a club record fee of £14million in January last season but he hasn’t played much part in the Premier League this season.

In fact, he has started only once in the Premier League so far, playing a meagre 244 minutes across 10 substitute appearances. He hasn’t been backed by Chris Hughton for some unknown reason and a move away from the Amex Stadium should be ideal for all parties involved.

Even though Jose Izquierdo hasn’t done particularly well, Hughton has preferred the Colombian to Locadia. Quite clearly, the manager doesn’t have him in his plans and Brighton should cash in on their out of favour star to fund a move for another striker or creative midfielder in January.

2. Ben White

A product of Brighton’s youth system, the 21-year-old centre-back made his debut back in the 2016-17 season in the League Cup but he has made it to the matchday squad in the Premier League only once this season.

White spent time on loan at League Two side Newport County last season and he is not likely to play any part for the Seagulls at the back with Lewis Dunk, Shane Duffy and Leon Balogun in the ranks. His development is only going to be hampered by constantly sitting on the sidelines and a loan move to the Championship in January should help him continue his progress down the right path.
