Predicted 4-4-2 Burnley XI to face Newcastle United in the Premier League

Burnley pinched a much-needed point away from home against Leicester City before the international break.

Sean Dyche’s men currently sit 16th in the standings and need to get a positive result when they play host to Newcastle United on Monday.

The Magpies put an end to their struggles with back-to-back wins against Watford and Bournemouth in recent weeks and they will be looking to continue their fine run of form.

Team News

James Tarkowski is ruled out with a groin injury but Ben Gibson is in contention for a return to the matchday squad following a pelvic injury. Steven Defour is set to face a fitness test before the game as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury while Johann Berg Gudmundsson should be fit enough to start on Monday.

Predicted XI

1. Joe Hart (GK)

The English international made some fine saves in the last game and has always been a reliable presence between the sticks.

2. Matthew Lowton (RB)

He made some good blocks and clearances against Leicester and should retain his place in the eleven.

3. Ben Mee (CB)

The Englishman put in a solid shift at the back in the last outing and will be expected to do the same on Monday.

4. Kevin Long (CB)

The experienced centre-back played very well in a deep defensive line against Leicester and is expected to continue in the first-team in the absence of Tarkowski.

5. Charlie Taylor (LB)

He has been a bit inconsistent at the back but Burnley do not have too many other options.

6. Johann Berg Gudmundsson (LM)

The Icelandic international has been one of the standout figures of Burnley’s campaign so far and he will be expected to deliver the goods once again on Monday.

7. Jack Cork (LCM)

The former Chelsea man has done a decent job in terms of defence but Burnley need him to contribute a bit more to the attack.

8. Ashley Westwood (RCM)

Question marks still lie over Defour’s fitness which might prompt Dyche to field the Englishman in the starting eleven.

9. Aaron Lennon (RM)

The former Spurs man has always been a lively presence down the flanks but Burnley will need better end product from him.
