Dwight Powell NBA Career
Powell finished his freshman year in Toronto and moved to the United States and joined his senior year at Florida. He averaged 23.3 points per game. His brilliant performance in his senior year was noticed by Rivals.com which named him as the No.8 power forward player in the year 2010.
The man is not only good at sports but also at studies as well. He joined Stanford University to pursue his college studies. At Stanford during his freshman year, he was praised with Pac-10 All-Freshman Team honours. In his freshman year, he averaged 8.1 points with 5.2 rebounds per game.
The Stanford Cardinal Men’s Basketball team won the NIT championship in 2011. Powell played a major role in the victory and earned the Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention selection. His junior year was filled with rewards that stated all his talents in the game.
After some tremendous performances in college, he was picked by Charlotte Hornets as their 45th overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft. The initial years of Powell in the NBA League didn’t go well for him as he was continuously traded between the teams in 2014. He hasn’t got many opportunities to showcase his skills in the 2014 season.
Hoping for a good turnaround, Powell joined the Dallas Mavericks at the end of 2014. He scored his season-best 11 points against Denver Nuggets in January. In between, he was assigned to play for the Texas Legends several times.
In 2015, the power forward signed a deal with the Mavericks for the 2015 NBA Summer League. His first double-double came against the Toronto Raptors. Game after game his scoring rate increased. He made his NBA debut against the Denver Nuggets recording a career-high 16 points in the game.
As the contract got over, the Mavericks resigned him in 2016 and extended his contract. He was smashing his own career-best scores game after game. In 2019, Powell scored a massive 26 points against the Washington Wizards but unfortunately, Powell ended up on the losing side.
Powell became only the 4th player in NBA history to play all 82 games in a season.
