And made his debut at the Spanish Grand Prix. In just two years with Williams, Coulthard decided to call it quits and went to McLaren Racing in 1996. He was with Mclaren till 2004 and went ahead to get a number of records during his time at McLaren.

In 2005 Coulthard joined Redbull Racing in single year deal worth around $2.7 million. Coulthard stayed with Redbull Racing till 2008 before retiring and becoming a full time commentator and journalist.

He was first signed by BBC then later went ahead to join Channel 4. In his Formula One career Coulthard earned 535 points, 12 pole positions and 18 Fastest Laps.

David Coulthard Personal Life

Coulthard was born on 27th March, 1971 in Scotland. He began racing at the age of eleven and was able to earn notable racing success. His father Duncan Coulthard was always supportive of his racing career. His father was also a racer.

He was the National Karting Champion. Coulthard was the recipient of the first ever McLaren Autosport young driver of the year award. In his Karting days he won multiple championships including Scottish Karting Championship and Cumbria Kart Racing Club Championship.

Coulthard is also a businessman and is big in real estate owning properties in Monaco, London. Switzerland and Belgium. He also own some luxury hotels in Britain. In 2001, Coulthard survived a plane crash.

It was a private jet that he had leased the plan which crashed while trying to make an emergency landing. Coulthard along with her then fiancée Heidi Wichlinski and his Body Guard survived the crash but the two pilots lost their lives.
