Dan Evans grabbed the headlines recently by winning the 2020 Battle of the Brits exhibition tournament beating Kyle Edmund in the final.

The 31-year-old won 6-3, 6-2 in the behind-closed-doors event played at the National Tennis Centre in west London.

Evans had also overthrown former World No.1 Andy Murray in the semi-finals before progressing to the finals. Often referred to as “Evo”, Evans has been known as the ‘bad boy of British tennis’ since his teenage years.

Those days, however, seem to be far behind him as he been through a complete rejuvenation following a one-year ban testing positive for cocaine in April 2017. Evans was the top-ranked British male tennis player and the recent victory at the Battle of Brits was just a cherry on top.

Tennis career

Evans first took to squash, playing alongside his father before diverting his attention to tennis.  By the time he was 13, Evans had moved to Loughborough to live with a host family while training at the LTA’s academy at Loughborough University.

Currently Britain’s No.2, Evans is ranked 24th in the world according to the ATP rankings and it is his highest-ever ranking since turning as a professional back in 2006.

His greatest achievement to date has been winning the Davis Cup for Britain back in 2015 alongside teammates Dominic Inglot, Andy Murray, Kyle Edmund, Jamie Murray, and James Ward. His greatest singles achievement has to be in 2021 when he won the Murray River Open, his first singles title.

In the Grand Slam’s his best performance came three years back when he reached the 2017 Australian Open fourth round after beating seventh-seed Marin Čilić. He matched that performance in the 2021 US Open too, however, he again exited the Grand Slam in the fourth round.

Evans’s, who has not yet won an ATP 1000 title has emerged runner-up in two Tour finals to date. Once at the 2017 Apia International Sydney (losing to Gilles Müller), and most recently during the 2019 Delray Beach Open (losing to Radu Albot).

However, he did reach the semi-finals of the 2021 Monte Carlo Masters, which remains his best ever performance in an ATP 1000 tournamanet.

Clothing

Dan Evans had played at the 2020 Australian Open without having a clothing sponsor having terminated his deal with Japanese manufacturer Yoxoi at the end of last season.

He was on the lookout for a new sponsor ahead of the Australian Open and had in the past wore a £20 shirt he bought himself the 2017 Australian Open after Nike cancelled their deal with the Birmingham-born star.

Girlfriend

Evans lives in Gloucestershire, in Cheltenham town centre with his girlfriend Aleah. He has settled there almost six years ago when Aleah, was working in nearby Winchcombe.

Aleah could be often seen supporting him in the stands during his matches. She was also instrumental in helping him return to tennis following his 12-month ban three years back. Reports suggest that the pair reside in Cheltenham together. However, the pair seem to be very private and there aren’t too many photos of them available.
