Crystal Palace Opinion: Why the Eagles should make a move for Kevin N’Doram

According to a report from the Soccer Link, Crystal Palace are one of the clubs interested in AS Monaco midfielder Kevin N’Doram. (h/t France Football)

The Frenchman, 23, managed just five appearances for AS Monaco in all competitions, as he missed the majority of the season due to a knee injury. Despite his lack of appearances last season, however, interest in the versatile midfielder is high, with the report suggesting the likes of Saint-Etienne, Montpellier, Metz, Nice and Rennes are all keen in Kevin N’Doram.

Crystal Palace are the only English club interested in signing the 23-year-old midfielder and interestingly hold the key due to N’Doram’s desire to move abroad this summer.

The Eagles finished 12th in the Premier League table after a really inconsistent campaign. They did get some good results on their way, but there are certain areas that need reinforcing if Roy Hodgson and co. are to challenge for a top-half finish next term.

One of the areas is the midfield, despite Palace having a plethora of options. In Luka Milivojevic, James McArthur, Max Meyer, Cheikhou Kouyate and Jeffrey Schlupp, Hodgson has options to choose from when deciding his midfield. But apart from Milivojevic, none of the aforementioned players consistently delivered the goods.

Milivojevic led from the front for the South Londoners, scored plenty of goals and protected the back four as well. But the Serbian lacked a partner in midfield that could help him keep things tidy. Expectations were very high when the Eagles signed Meyer on a free transfer from Schalke but he blew hot and cold throughout the campaign.

Kevin N’Doram could be the ideal partner to Milivojevic in midfield. Whilst N’Doram is naturally a defensive midfielder, he can also slot into central defence if needed and has spent his entire career at AS Monaco having progressed through his team’s youth ranks and up to senior level. The 23-year-old is strong on the ball and his tough nature would help him adjust to the grind and demand of the English football.

The Frenchman has the ability to orchestrate the tempo of the game from a deeper role in midfield despite being 23. The player is regarded for his energy, strength, tough-tackling and versatility, whereas his positional awareness and maturity on the ball should make him a proper fit to succeed at Selhurst Park.

Verdict

Although Roy Hodgson will have to spend a lot of time and money bolstering Palace’s toothless attack, he’ll do well to spend some of it on M’Doram to solve his team’s midfield conundrum as well.
