Crystal Palace Opinion: Eagles should beat West Ham to sign Bradley Dack

According to reports from the Daily Mail, Premier League clubs West Ham and Crystal Palace are both plotting an audacious summer swoop on Blackburn Rovers for influential playmaker Bradley Dack.

The Mail also understands that Blackburn have slapped a daunting £18 million price tag on the 25-year-old attacking midfielder, who they brought for a meagre £750,000 from League One outfit Gillingham back in the summer of 2017.

The same report claims that the Hammers and the Eagles have scouted Dack throughout the season and they have received positive reports from their scouting team but the huge price tag might be an issue.

Dack made an instant impact upon his arrival at Ewood Park at the start of the last season and contributed with a staggering 18 goals and 9 assists to propel Blackburn to a promotion-winning campaign in League One. The 25-year-old continued from where he signed off last season and helped Tony Mowbray’s side to a mid-table finish on their return to the Championship this term, amassing a total of 15 goals and 7 assists from 42 appearances.

As evident from those impressive numbers in his first ever season in the Championship, the 25-year-old has shown that he has the quality to make a huge impression in the second-tier. Given that he has hit double figures in terms of goals in four of his last five seasons in all divisions, Dack certainly deserves a chance to prove his worth at the highest level and this summer might just be the right time for him to take the next big step in his career.

To put things into perspective, it would be a bit of a gamble for either of the aforementioned clubs to dish out an 8-figure sum for a player who doesn’t have any prior experience of playing in the top flight.

However, Dack is a hugely talented player and he might prove himself to be worth more than that £18 million asking price should a move to the Premier League eventually materialize for the 25-year-old. Players like James Maddison and David Brooks have successfully made the jump up to the Premier League this season and it would be unfair to write Dack off without even giving him a chance.

To be more precise, Crystal Palace would mag a massive coup and get one over their London rivals if they manage to strike a deal for the impressive playmaker this summer. The Eagles have struggled for creativity in the midfield this term in the Premier League, forcing them to rely heavily on the likes of Wilfred Zaha and Andros Townsend up front to work their magic single-handedly.

That, however, hasn’t paid dividends very often, with the Eagles failing to score enough goals this season. They brought in Max Meyer last summer to add creativity to their ranks but the German has failed to live up to the expectations at Selhurst Park in his first season. Much of the creativity has been provided by Luka Milivojevic and James McArthur from central midfield, while full-backs Patrick van Aanholt and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have also contributed greatly to the attack.

Well, it is quite evident that Palace still need an out-and-out central attacking midfielder to solve their crisis and Bradley Dack seemingly has all the qualities to answer their prayers for an influential No.10.

Known for his pace, power, drive, determination, sharpness, agility and balance, Dack is a technically-gifted creative ace, who excels with his creativity, dribbling skills and vision, while also possessing the necessary pedigree to deliver crucial goals. Not only does he have the ability to spark creativity between the lines but the 25-year-old also knows how to create his own space in the final third.

Dack’s presence in the hole behind the striker would improve the quality of the supply lines at Selhurst Park massively and go a long way in getting the best out of Townsend, Zaha and Benteke. Roy Hodgson knows exactly how to get the best out of new arrivals and Palace would undoubtedly do themselves a world of good by getting their hands on the Blackburn ace this summer.
