Why Crystal Palace should go all out for Rhian Brewster

As per Daily Mail, Crystal Palace are ahead in the queue to sign Rhian Brewster from Liverpool. There are other teams who are also in the race such as Sheffield United and West Brom. Liverpool are looking to have a clearout of sorts as Brewster has been deemed as surplus, at least for this season.

Profile

Rhian Brewster is a 20-year-old English forward who plays for Liverpool. Interestingly, his youth career started at Chelsea’s academy in 2008. He spent a good 7 years there before joining rivals Liverpool.

The forward has made 39 appearances for the youth sides, scoring 18 and assisting 14. He has just the 4 senior games to his name, making his debut in September 2019 in an EFL Cup tie.

A loan move to Swansea followed mid-season and he racked up some good numbers for the Championship side. In 22 games, he scored 11 goals (source – Transfermarkt). He is currently back at Liverpool but is looking for a way out to get more game time.

Brewster is a staple of the England youth teams. He performed exceptionally during his spell with the U-17 side and won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017. The Golden Ball was awarded to him for his tally of 8 goals during the competition.

Do Crystal Palace need Brewster?

While it may seem like Crystal Palace have a good stock of forwards with the likes of Jordan Ayew, Christian Benteke, Wilfried Zaha and Michy Batshuayi, a player of Brewster’s capabilities should never be passed up.

He is the future of England’s attack and at 20 years of age, he’s already looking the real deal. With another striker option, Zaha can revert to his original position of left-wing, provided he stays at the club.

Brewster is a good option to have up your sleeve given Michy Batshuayi and Christian Benteke haven’t done anything of note in the last couple of seasons. He is a very gifted goalscorer as we have seen from previous campaigns.

Verdict

A deal for Brewster is a complicated one, especially with Liverpool demanding certain clauses such as a buyback and sell on.

However, we need to remember how good this guy is, especially at such a tender age. At Palace, he can get more game time and flourish. He is one for the future and Palace would be wise to not pass up on a deal for him.
