The Spanish star started the season by taking part in the Maharashtra Open. He defeated Ramkumar Ramanathan and 4th seed Sebastian Baez to reach the quarterfinals. Aslan Karatsev stopped his run in the quarterfinals with a solid performance.

In the Australian Open, Martinez faced a tough opponent in Hubert Hurkacz in the first round. The 10th-seeded Hurkacz made light work of Martinez and won the match 7-6 (7-1), 6-2, 6-2. Martinez also played in the doubles event alongside Thiago Monteiro but lost in the first round to the South African duo of Raven Klaasen and Lloyd Harris.

Cristian Garin

The 26-year-old began 2023 by competing in a Challenger event in Noumea. Garin entered the tournament as the top seed and defeated Jake Delaney, Thomas Fancutt, and Facundo Diaz Acosta before losing to Raul Brancaccio in the quarterfinals.

Like Martinez, Garin’s campaign in the Australian Open was also cut short in the first round itself. The Chilean star lost to 29th seed Sebastian Korda in four sets.

Head-to-Head and Prediction

Cristian Garin defeated Pedro Martinez in each of their first three encounters. However, the Spaniard pulled one back in their most recent encounter in the 2022 Miami Open. Therefore, the head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 3-1 in favor of Garin.

Prediction: Pedro Martinez to win in three sets.
