In his childhood days, he liked to play football. But one day his brother advised him to play basketball and use his height. His mind completely shifted to basketball after he talked with the legendary Thabo Sefolosha. He got into the Swiss team for the European Junior Championships. For improving his skillset further he joined INSEP in France. Initially, he joined Elan Chalon of the LNL Pro A. He was with the team for 2 years and gave his best to the team.
After completing 2 years with the Chalon, Capela entered the 2014 NBA draft. He also got selected for the World Team at the 2014 Nike Hoop Summit. Capela was selected by the Houston Rockets as their 25th overall pick. He debuted against the Raptors and scored 10 points with five rebounds per game. In between, he was assigned to play for the Vipers in the NBA Development League.
In a match against the Pelicans, Capela scored a massive 28 points and helped his team to win the game. After he became a restricted free agent, he signed a 5-year/$90 million contract extension. He scored a massive 31-points against the Denver Nuggets and set his career-high record. He was rested for a few weeks due to an injury that happened while playing against Orlando Magic.
