Chelsea Opinion: Blues must extend Emerson’s Chelsea contract

According to a recent report by Football Italia, the agent of Chelsea’s Italian international full-back Emerson Palmieri has come out and stated publicly that his client’s future is in London, with the Blues said to be quite keen on keeping him at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer. He has claimed that the Italian has years left on his contract and that he is happy at Stamford Bridge.

It has been suggested that the Italian was linked with multiple Serie A clubs over the course of the last two campaigns. He didn’t have the greatest of starts to his Chelsea career as he struggled to keep up with the blistering form that Marcos Alonso displayed under the former managership of Italian Antonio Conte.

The youngster is still only 24 and began his career in Brazil with the Santos youth academy. Having developed into a top talent while in Brazil, he was scouted and signed by Serie A side Palermo in the summer of 2014. He was given Italian citizenship in the coming years and he even managed to represent the Italy national team recently.

After being loaned back to Santos for a season, his second loan spell in Italy changed his career. Shipped out to Roma for the campaign, the youngster impressed heavily in the full-back position and this motivated the side from Rome to make a permanent move for the Italian in the summer transfer window that followed.

After making a name for himself at Roma, he was eventually recognised as a potential future-star and signed up by Chelsea. Since moving to North London, he certainly hasn’t found life very easy. Despite being 2nd choice behind Alonso for large parts of his Blues career, the Italian has persevered through the tough times and made himself a place in the side.

He has certainly won Maurizio Sarri’s trust and that was visible in the latter part of last season. He was chosen ahead of Alonso in the bigger games and the Italian even gave him the opportunity of starting their Europa League final tie against the Gunners in Baku.

He put in what was arguably the best display of his Chelsea career to further announce himself with the Chelsea fans.

He has certainly made the transition to English football now and although it wasn’t nearly as smooth as he would’ve liked, things have gotten better for him and a move away doesn’t seem to be on his mind.
