Chelsea Opinion: Blues cannot afford to let Tammy Abraham depart
According to a recent report by the Express, Aston Villa’s mercurial loanee striker Tammy Abraham has come out and made some rather controversial statements about his potential future plans. He put in a fine display as the Villains were able to triumph over Frank Lampard’s Derby County side to secure promotion to the Premier League after a fairly long absence.
When interviewed after the fixture and asked about his future, Tammy responded by saying “Never say never” and while this would be extremely good news for Villa fans – who could potentially see their star striker return to Villa Park next season, the Chelsea faithful won’t be very happy with the statement that he made.
Although he’s never really be given a prolonged opportunity at Stamford Bridge, he’s a highly-rated member of the squad at Chelsea and the season he’s had in the Championship for Aston Villa could be considered his coronation. The fact that Chelsea have struggled to find prolific strikers in the past can be completely forgotten if they’re able to incorporate Tammy into the side, in the form he’s in.
Seemingly unstoppable once he gets into his flow, Tammy is an excellent centre-forward who has the uncanny ability to read crosses into the box before it leaves the winger’s foot. Capable of using his height well, Tammy’s finishing skills are otherworldly and at such a young age, he’s already a hero among the Villa fans.
Chelsea’s transfer ban could mean bad news for the young Englishman though as they are already quite short in this department. While the question of whether Gonzalo Higuain will be a Chelsea Player at the start of next season remains up in the air, Olivier Giroud would then automatically become the first-choice striker.
A situation like that would be the ideal scenario for the talismanic youngster to come into the side and really step up to the plate. He can prove that a club doesn’t have to spend £100m to get a striker who can score goals on a regular basis. His pace and movement will suit Maurizio Sarri’s style of play as well, considering that he’s capable of holding the ball up as well as running in behind.

Although the youngster has done an exceptional job for Villa in the Championship, the Premier League is a different ballgame. His figures this season read 25 goals and 3 assists from 37 league games and if he’s able to replicate number anywhere near this at Stamford Bridge next season, then Chelsea fans will have new song to sing for years to come.
