Chelsea vs Manchester City prediction: Combined line-up
Fourth-placed Chelsea take on defending English champions Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Thursday in a thrilling Premier League fixture. City have disappointed in the first half of the campaign where they showed inconsistency. As a result, they have fallen behind league leaders Liverpool in the title race. Meanwhile, Frank Lampard has done a decent job in his first year in charge of the Blues.
However, Pep Guardiola’s men are 12 points ahead of Chelsea in the league standings after a thumping 5-0 victory over Burnley.
Combined Chelsea-Man City XI
The Brazilian is, without a doubt, one of the finest shot-stoppers in the league. He has kept 11 clean sheets so far this season.
Kyle Walker (RB)
The Englishman has been a regular member of City’s squad for some time now. He has been crucial for Guardiola’s side since his arrival.
Antonio Rudiger (CB)
Rudiger is one of the main reasons for Chelsea’s improved performance at the back this season. His absence left the Blues in a difficult position earlier in the campaign. He is a tough defender.
Aymeric Laporte (CB)
Though the Frenchman has been out for the best part of the 2019/20 season, he remains a key member of the Etihad outfit. His leadership at the back is highly commendable.
Benjamin Mendy (LB)
Mendy should get the nod ahead of Marcos Alonso in this team. Though both have not been at their best this season, the Frenchman seems to be sharp in defence than his counterpart.
Mateo Kovacic (RCM)
The former Real Madrid man has taken his game to the next level this term. He has improved a lot under Lampard and is one of the mainstays in the team. However, it’s an arguable decision as David Silva is also a strong contender for this position.
N’Golo Kante (CDM)
The 29-year-old World Cup winner is one of the best midfielders in Europe. He is capable of doing extremely well in defensive situations.
Kevin De Bruyne (LCM)
City’s prized asset, Kevin de Bruyne is worthy of a place in any strong line-up. He has been a key figure at the Etihad since his arrival. He is the league’s top assist-provider with 16 to his name.
Riyad Mahrez (RW)
Despite not being a regular in the starting XI, Mahrez has done well whenever called upon. His form of late has improved and is capable of causing damage on his own to any defence.
Raheem Sterling (LW)
Sterling is one of the best wingers across Europe. He has already racked up 12 goals so far and is definitely the first-choice winger in this team.
Tammy Abraham (ST)
The youngster has endured a brilliant campaign so far, scoring 13 goals in the league. He is one of the best young talents in the country and has the potential to go a long way in his career.
