Chelsea Opinion: Blues should send Higuain back to Turin in summer

Chelsea are unquestionably one of England’s biggest teams and while they’ve always had massive ambitions in terms of trophies, their efforts have often fallen short due to weaknesses in specific positions.

This season, although Chelsea started by playing a lot better than they did last time out, all the alarming issues have slowly come into light. As a result, the Chelsea manager must be in a position of real concern.

With only a small part of the season left, Maurizio Sarri will have to ensure his team performs up to their usual standards to try and make it into the Champions League next season.

Winning the Europa League would be their most realistic path towards Champions League football next season but their efforts have been limited by their sheer lack of goals.

Gonzalo Higuain was brought in from Juventus in January as it was starting to become clear that former Real Madrid man Alvaro Morata wasn’t going to be able to deliver at the highest level for Chelsea.

But despite his quality, the massive expectations that were placed on the former Napoli man’s shoulders have weighed him down quite drastically as he has still only scored 3 goals for his new club. In fact, 2 of them came against the league’s bottom club Huddersfield Town.

Reports arising from Marca are suggesting that Chelsea could be in line to allow Higuain to return to Juventus at the end of the season with the Blues not opting to extend his loan deal.

Sharp movement and well-timed runs in-behind the defence are the main weapons in his arsenal. Considering how the rest of the players around him play, he certainly doesn’t suit their style and it’s quite clear that the Chelsea front-line is more efficient when lead by Olivier Giroud.

When we get to the summer transfer window, whether or not Sarri will still be the manager of Chelsea is a massive doubt.

Irrespective of the answer, the need for a top striker is still high and they must look for alternatives elsewhere and send the Argentine forward back to Turin.
