Chelsea Opinion: 2 players the Blues should invest in after Hazard sale

According to a recent report by The Sun, Chelsea’s mercurial Belgian star Eden Hazard is said to be on his way to Madrid to join up with Zinedine Zidane’s Real side in the coming weeks. It has been suggested that a fee of £115m has been agreed between the clubs and the transfer would see the Belgian weekly pay rise to £400k per week.

Eden Hazard has been Chelsea’s brightest talent since he joined them from Lille in the summer of 2012. He has helped the Blues to Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League successes during his long career as a fan-favourite at Stamford Bridge. He has produced some special goals along the way and used to be a Chelsea legend for a long time to come.

This season, the Belgian has taken his game to another level. Although he returned late from the World Cup, he started putting in mind-blowing displays in the league from day one. His dribbling seemed unreadable and defending against him was seen as a horror challenge.

For a change, he got the numbers to back up his brilliance as well having got 16 goals and 15 assists from 37 league games.

Here are two players that Chelsea could target to reinvest the £115m expected from the Eden Hazard sale:

Nicolas Pepe

The versatile Ivorian has been linked with a possible move to Liverpool according to a report by Metro. Although a fee in the region of £80m is being suggested, Eden Hazard’s sale would make that an affordable figure for the Blues. Replacing him will be a tough task, getting Pepe in will be a massive boost ahead of what could be a massive season for their future.

Nicolas Pepe

His displays for Lille this season have been quite inspiring and there’s no surprise that Liverpool have been quite keen on his signature. He has played in 38 games for Lille in the Ligue 1 this season and his figures read 22 goals and 11 assists. He has been a key figure for Lille and he’s even made 11 appearances for the Ivory Coast national side.

Philippe Coutinho

Another player being linked to the Blues is Philippe Coutinho, as suggested by Metro. The Brazilian international midfielder joined Barcelona from Liverpool to complete what was his dream move.

Despite being so highly-rated, he has struggled for form since moving to the Camp Nou and has found it extremely difficult to fit in with the squad. His opportunities have been quite limited and his has been in the shadow of the talented Barcelona attackers.

A move back to the Premier League would be a good choice for the Brazilian who needs to be playing regular first-team football at his age.

Now 26, he has featured in 34 La Liga games this season but has only managed to produce an underwhelming tally of 5 goals and 2 assists. A move to Chelsea could be the way to reignite his career and the Blues should go for it with both hands.
