Alcaraz took his second L of the year in the semi-final of the Indian Wells Masters against his idol Rafael Nadal. The former world No. 1 suffered a rib injury during the match. However, the warrior played the final which he lost to Taylor Fritz after putting in a valiant effort. Nadal returned after recovering from the injury and played in the Madrid Open and the Italian Open. However, success eluded him until the French Open came by. The 36-year-old won his 22nd Grand Slam and 14th at Roland Garros. Nadal suffered another injury during the quarter-final match at Wimbledon against Taylor Fritz. He is currently on the road to recovery and will hope to be back ahead of the upcoming US Open.

The German Alexander Zverev was the next one to get one over Alcaraz. The current world No. 2 achieved the feat in the quarterfinals of the Roland Garros. The 25-year-old won the match in four sets to progress to the semi-final. However, after a great start to the match against the eventual-champion Nadal, Zverev lost the plot and during the last point of the 12th game of the second set, he suffered a terrible ankle injury. He had torn all three lateral ligaments in his right ankle. Zverev missed Wimbledon and it seems highly unlikely that he would recover in time for the US Open which begins on August 29.

He went on to face Novak Djokovic in the quarter-final and won the first two sets. However, the veteran pulled up his socks and produced a dominant display in the following three sets to win the five-set thriller. Sinner announced recently that he will not compete in the upcoming ATP 500 in Hamburg. He rolled his ankle during the match against the Serbian legend and it seems that he has not yet recovered fully. The 20-year-old stated that this is more of a precautionary move so that he does not aggravate the injury.
