Here’s a look at the Canadian GP 2022 qualifying report as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took pole position for Sunday’s race in Montreal.

On a fascinating Saturday at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit, Red Bull driver and reigning F1 Drivers’ champion Max Verstappen took a rather comfortable pole position as he dominated the entire qualifying session at the Canadian GP. The Dutchman was head and shoulders above the rest of the pack as he weaved his magic in the wet and tricky conditions of Montreal.

Verstappen clocked a lap time of 1 minute 21.299s, leaving him a full 0.645s ahead of veteran Fernando Alonso in the Alpine. The Spaniard had a super qualifying outing in Canada and was putting in incredible timings throughout the day. Alonso’s splendid Q3 lap put him on the front row for the first time in 10 years.

He stole that spot from a fellow Spaniard in the form of Carlos Sainz. Sainz looked to challenge Verstappen on his final Q3 lap but seemed to lose some grip and time on the final corner which cost his Ferrari some time and eventually he had to settle for P3 for the start of the Canadian GP.

Lewis Hamilton finished in 4th while Haas driver Kevin Magnussen impressed in P5 ahead of his teammate Mick Schumacher. Esteban Ocon will start the race in 7th place ahead of George Russell, Daniel Ricciardo and Guanyu Zhou.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc will start in last place after taking a new power unit while Red Bull’s Serio Perez will start in P15 after he crashed his Red Bull in Q2.

Here’s a look at the top 10 on the grid for tomorrow’s Canadian GP race:
