Jacob Murphy’s West Brom move is a win-win for him if he performs well

While many thought that brother Josh Murphy would be the one to hit it big time, Jacob Murphy’s rather surprising rise hit the scouts and a move to Newcastle United beckoned.

However, things haven’t worked out for the winger since then with Sky Sports reporting that the 23-year-old has left the Magpies for Championship side West Brom.  While this doesn’t mean the end of Murphy’s time at St James’ Park, the 23-year-old has a chance to re-discover the form and skill that made him a wanted man a few years ago.

For West Brom however, they have brought in a wide player in form of Jacob Murphy to reduce the burden on the likes of Matt Philips and Jefferson Montero. But at the same time, it’s also a chance to replace ageing star Chris Brunt, with the left-winger on the wrong side of 30 and not getting any younger. This simply means that Jacob Murphy has a clear run into the first team and has the chance to prove exactly he can do when given the chance.

However, it’s not just a chance to prove himself but for West Bromwich, they have got a player who’ll bring in plenty of pace, power and creativity. The 23-year-old is lethal in front of goal when he wants to be and given his history, West Brom does get a proven wide player. Barring his spell at Newcastle United, Murphy had averaged five goals a season, with his best coming in the League One with him producing 19 goals.

His pace and agility that make him a valuable star along with his versatility to play across the front-line further add to his value for West Brom. With Wesley Hoolahan turning 37 in May, Murphy can deputise as a number 10 if needed and his creative abilities are as good as his goal-scoring. The 23-year-old has created 41 assists over the years, but he has struggled in recent seasons.

However, so had Jay Rodriguez, Dwight Gayle and even Chris Brunt before Darren Moore joined and somehow managed to help them re-discover their purpose. If the West Brom manager can do the same for Jacob Murphy, then both parties will get the best out of the deal, and maybe the 23-year-old gets another chance at Newcastle United.

Even if he doesn’t and the 23-year-old does well at West Bromwich Albion and they get promoted, Murphy could get a chance with the Baggies.
