Why Burnley must plot a summer swoop for Fenerbahce’s Vedat Muriqi

According to a report by Net Haber (h/t The Leicester Mercury), Burnley have been linked with Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi.

Vedat Muriqi, 25, has impressed since moving to Fenerbahce in July last year. He has 13 goals and five assists in all competitions this term having only joined from Caykur Rizespor in the summer. The centre-forward has also been capped 23 times by the Kosovan national time, scoring eight goals.

The Kosovo international’s performances in the Turkish Super Lig have also caught the attention of Leicester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Monaco, the report adds. (h/t The Leicester Mercury)

Meanwhile, Burnley have picked up form in the last few weeks, winning four out of their last five league games. That has seen them climb up to 8th in the table and must give their everything to finish in the top half of the table.

One problem Burnley have faced this season is the lack of goals. The strike pairing of Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes has worked well in tandems with winger Dwight McNeil also impressing with a goal and four assists, yet the Clarets have only managed 30 goals in 26 games. Apart from Wood and Barnes—the duo contributing to 16 goals– they have Jay Rodriguez and Matej Vydra as options upfront.

But with Rodriguez and Vydra managing only four and one goals respectively in the Premier League this term, Dyche must prioritise signing a striker when the transfer window opens in the summer. Having said that, Burnley must make a move for Vedat Muriqi.

Muriqi had a fantastic 2018/19 campaign with Caykur Rizespor as he netted 17 goals and provided 8 assists in 34 league games. His goalscoring exploits with Rizespor earned him a move to Fenerbahce, where he has proved himself with 13 goals and five assists in all competitions this term.

Verdict

Regardless of the fact that the Kosovo international has no previous experience in English football, Burnley must purely look at Muriqi’s goal-scoring record in Turkey and plot a summer swoop for him. All in all, Muriqi would definitely bolster the Clarets’ forward department next season.
