Wolves player ratings vs Man Utd: Who impressed for the away side?

Nuno Espirito Santos’ men put up a display of grit and determination to deny Manchester United three points at Old Trafford. Wolves showed plenty of character in the dying stages of the game and defended deep to keep the Red Devils at bay.

The away team began brightly with Raul Jimenez and Willy Boly testing David De Gea early in the first half but it was Manchester United who found the breakthrough against the run of play. Fred finished off a beautifully crafted move by Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba to put United in the driver’s seat in the 18th minute.

However, Wolves forged a comeback in the second half and Joao Moutinho took advantage of some sloppy defending to equalize in the 53rd minute. United continued to throw caution to the winds in search of a late winner but Wolves held on to the 1-1 scoreline to rescue a crucial point away from home.

Willy Boly (8.5/10)

Arguably Wolves’ standout performer at the back, the Frenchman allowed little space for the attackers to exploit and put his body on the line to make some crucial blocks. He saved the day for his team towards the fag end of the match with a crucial interception to deny Romelu Lukaku. Furthermore, he provided impetus to the attack in the first half and tested De Gea with a powerful header.

Matt Doherty (6.5/10)

He impressed with his work rate and moved up and down the pitch to contribute to the attack and the defence. He combined well with Helder Costa down the right and tracked back to close down the attackers.

Ruben Neves (7.5/10)

The Portuguese youngster found it tough against Pogba in the midfield but did a good job to keep out the attacks and provided stability with some accurate passing. He looked comfortable in possession and wasn’t afraid to go into crucial tackles; defended well towards the end.

Joao Moutinho (7.5/10)

The Portuguese international had a good game in the heart of the midfield and contributed to the attack with some good passes. He got the equalizer with a stunning strike and did a nice job defensively in the latter stages of the game.

Jonathan Otto (7/10)

He played the role of a wing-back perfectly. While he wasn’t afraid to go forward and support Diogo Jota, he made sure the attackers did not get too much space at the back to work with. He also defended with a lot of determination towards the end.

Helder Costa (8/10)

Another solid and hardworking performance by the winger. He had the better of Luke Shaw on multiple occasions and linked the play effectively with Raul Jimenez and Matt Doherty. He did exceptionally well to get the cross in from a tight angle which ultimately led to the goal.

Diogo Jota (7.5/10)

Just like the rest of the attackers, he worked hard and wasn’t afraid to take on the defenders. He combined well with Otto and Costa and was a lively presence in the final third.

Raul Jimenez ( 7/10)

The Mexican striker put in another good performance and caused a lot of problems for United’s porous backline. He also tested De Gea in the first half with a close-range shot.
