The 30-year-old Ghanian forward started his youth career at 1860 Munich in 1996 and moved to Nania FC after 3 years. After that, he joined Marseille’s youth setup and progressed through the youth teams.

Finally, he was promoted to the senior team in 2007 and went on to make 209 appearances for the French side, scoring 60 goals and 25 assists in the process (source – Transfermarkt). He did have two loan spells in between, at Lorient and Arles Avignon.

Swansea signed him on a free transfer in 2015 but was sold to West Ham in the following season. He re-signed for Swansea in 2018, thereby making a total of 99 appearances for them. Another loan spell happened in 2018 when he went to Fenerbahce for a season.

Ayew is the captain of his national team with 86 caps and 15 goals to date.

Will Ayew be a useful signing for Brighton?

One look at Brighton’s wide department would show that there’s a lack of depth there. Jose Izquierdo, Alireza Jahanbaksh and Leandro Trossard are the only wingers in the senior side. The Seagulls could really do with another wide player with experience.

Andre Ayew could be a great addition in that regard. Capable of playing on either wing as well as in a number 10 role, he would be a very good utility player to have in the ranks. He could well be needed on the right wing as Jahanbaksh is the only other right-winger they have.

Verdict

A veteran of close to 100 Premier League games, Ayew would add some good experience to the side. His versatility would be a huge asset for them as well.
