Why Abdul Mumin Suleman would be a good fit at Brighton
According to Daily Mail, Brighton and Hove Albion are targeting FC Nordsjaelland’s emerging centre-back Abdul Mumin Suleman.
The 21-year-old defender has been earning rave reviews in Denmark following a string of impressive displays at the back for Nordsjaelland. The Ghanaian youngster’s consistency has seen him emerge as one of the key players for Nordsjaelland this season. (h/t Daily Mail)
He has featured in 20 of their overall 24 league games so far and has helped his team to five clean sheets in those games, proving his significance for the team. It has been a breakthrough campaign for the young centre-back, who joined the Danish side back in the summer of 2016.
At 6ft 3in, Mumin is a physically imposing defender and has, till date, made 41 appearances for Nordsjaelland. However, the youngster’s current contract with the club is set to expire this summer, meaning he would be available on a free transfer.
This has alerted the likes of Premier League club such as Brighton, who are on the lookout for a new defender ahead of next season. (h/t Daily Mail)
Mumin can offer consistency at the back for Brighton
Meanwhile, Graham Potter’s Brighton like last season are fighting for their survival in the top-flight. They are currently two places ahead of the relegation zone after managing to win just six of their overall 29 league outings.
The Seagulls are in need of a consistent centre-back to partner alongside skipper Lewis Dunk, after having conceded 40 goals in the league this season. Summer signing Adam Webster has featured with Dunk in the heart of their defence. However, he is yet to impress, considering Brighton’s displays.
Potter’s side also have experienced campaigners Shane Duffy and Dan Burn as backup. But Burns has mostly been deployed in the left-back role due to their dearth of players in that position. Duffy, meanwhile, has made just 15 appearances, indicating that he is not on top of Potter’s plans at the moment.
Also, with the financial implications of the coronavirus affecting almost every club including Brighton, they would be better off going for cheaper alternatives ahead of next season. Having proven his mettle in Denmark, Mumin fits the bill perfectly for the Seagulls.
At just 21, he is still young and should get better with experience, in turn, providing Brighton with a long-term option. Moreover, he will not cost a penny in transfer fees.

Verdict
Despite having as many as four centre-backs in their ranks, Brighton clearly lack a consistent defender and would benefit by adding someone like Mumin. Moreover, he is still young and has plenty of football left in him, making him an excellent future investment for the Seagulls. Also, his arrival will offer manager Potter plenty of options at the back adding more depth within the ranks.
