Following his spectacular win against Dillian Whyte, Tyson Fury laid the stage for a future blockbuster clash against UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. Fury was at his best against Whyte, cutting angles of the ring, bobbing and weaving with ease, elusive footwork on point, parrying shots masterfully and ending the fight with a well-timed uppercut that put his opponent flat on his back.

To everyone’s surprise, Ngannou who was in attendance made an appearance in the ring following Fury’s victory, and the pair laid the foundation for a possible super-fight.

UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and the UFC top brass have been at loggerheads over a pay dispute, and terms in his contract. The Predator had even gone out on a limb claiming that he wants a move away from the UFC to boxing.

But since then, they have sat down on multiple occasions to chalk out a path forward, and Francis has openly stated that the prospect of a fight against Tyson Fury should be penned in his contract.

However, reports of Tyson Fury retiring from the sport was making rounds. Earlier yesterday, Fury posted a picture of him and Ngannou inside the boxing ring following his victory against Whyte with the caption,

Thought you wanted some smoke

He also used the smiley of a chicken, suggesting that Ngannou is chickening out from the fight. Reacting to this on Twitter Ngannou said, ‘Don’t you dare think that I take my eyes out of you. You’re still my priority !
I’m coming for all the smoke 💨💨💨. 2023.’

Ngannou also reminded Fury that he competes inside the mixed martial arts rule set which is a more complete fight than a boxing bout. He posted another tweet saying, ‘What do you mean when you say “PROPER” fight? because I’m a real fighter, and I can make it a la carte for you since you can’t handle it all 🤷🏾‍♂️’

‘I’m just getting started’ – Francis Ngannou shuts down talks of early retirement from the sport

Francis Ngannou and the UFC top brass have been at loggerheads over a pay dispute and certain terms in his contract. The Predator had even gone out on a limb claiming that he wants a move away from the UFC to boxing. Currently, he is sidelined with a knee injury that will keep him out of action for this year entirely.

Ngannou dug deep to overcome some adversity in his last fight and first title defense against the crafty Ciryl Gane. But that victory came at a cost, and the apex predator is sidelined for the entire year, while talks of an interim championship is gaining momentum.

It was also being discussed that Ngannou might not stick around and make a potential jump to boxing, while clouds of uncertainty doomed over his UFC career.

A fan wrote on a Twitter thread earlier yesterday suggesting that we might never see Francis fight again. Ngannou replied to the tweet by affirming that he’s far from done, and has at least five more years of fighting left. Besides that, he also used the three kings hashtag, popularly coined for the three ruling dominant African champions- Kamaru Usman, Israel Adesanya, and Francis himself.

He wrote, ‘I’m just getting started bro ! I have at least 5 more years to conquer everything. #3KINGS’
