Why Bournemouth should raid Celtic to sign Callum McGregor

According to The Scottish Sun, Premier League side Bournemouth are interested in signing Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor. The Cherries are in the transfer market for a new midfielder following Lewis Cook’s horror knee injury.

Cook has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to the injury and Eddie Howe has turned his attention to McGregor, who is immensely versatile. McGregor has been a standout performer for club and country in recent months. The 25-year-old has excelled in the middle of the park, keeping his captain Scott Brown out of the Bhoys starting line-up.

Celtic lost Moussa Dembele to Lyon on deadline day in August and may now face major interest in one of their top players in January as well.

The 25-year-old Scotland international has established himself as one of the key players for Celtic under Brendan Rodgers. The Parkhead academy graduate has already netted an impressive four goals and provided six assists in all competitions so far this term. He has recorded the highest number of league assists than any other Celtic player.

Callum McGregor’s versatility makes him a valuable player for any side. He is capable of playing as a holding midfielder, a central midfielder and an attacking midfielder. He can also play out on the flanks if needed.

McGregor could fit into a number of roles in Howe’s system whilst producing real quality in each role. At 25, he has his best years ahead of him and would represent a long-term investment. The midfielder has developed rapidly over the last two years and would be an excellent purchase for the Premier League outfit.

Bournemouth have been solid so far this season. The Cherries are currently 8th with 23 points and are just three points behind sixth-placed Manchester United. The south coast side has the chance to push for a European qualification slot as well. To do so, Eddie Howe needs to strengthen his squad when the January transfer window opens and McGregor would be a smart addition.

Having lifted seven trophies during his time in at Celtic, only a bumper contract and the allure to play in the Premier League might turn the Glasgow-born midfielder’s head. That said, a move to Bournemouth would provide McGregor with a solid platform to establish himself in the world’s most difficult league.
