Water is abundant in the Pokémon universe, and many Water-type species can be found there. Although a large portion of this population has a second typing, certain Pokemon have only one, making them pure Water-types. These range in quality from mediocre to outstanding. The performance of a Pokémon in the main series games is one approach to assess its viability. While some Mega Evolutions and Primal Reversions classify as pure Water-types, creatures that can change their typing based on an item or a move do not. 10. Samurott
With his Speed and defense characteristics, Samurott is in a similar situation to Feraligatr. Both, though, are lower than Feraligatr’s. However, there are a few reasons why Samurott is more powerful. It has similar Attack and Special Attack numbers, allowing it to reach both categories with constant levels of strength. Physical Water is also learned at a lower level than Feraligatr. As a result, Samurott is far more capable during a game. It does, however, suffer from a lack of excellence in any one area.
9. Wailord
This Pokemon is 47’07” long and weighs 877.4 pounds. That makes it one of the largest in the world, capable of filling a stadium on its own. Wailord, aside from its size, is a very powerful option. At levels 49 and 54, Wailord learns Hydro Pump and Water Sprout, respectively. It also offers some diversity thanks to the Normal-type Body Slam, Steel-type Heavy Slam, and Flying-type Bounce moves. Heavy Slam should be a trainer’s go-to move against much smaller opponents, as the strength of the attack increases as the weight differential between Wailord and the target grows. Wailord is 877.4 pounds, so it should be able to take on most Pokemon. Just make sure you don’t use it on Snorlax.
8. Gyarados
Despite how long and arduous the process of evolving Magikarp into Gyarados can be, every trainer worth their salt knows that it’s a grind worth taking on in every new generation of games. Gyarados is a popular sweeper because with its high Attack stat of 125, a variety of devastating moves like Hydro Pump and Thrash, and the status move Dragon Dance, which improves Attack and Speed when used. Hyper Beam, the final move Gyarados learns as he levels up, has an incredible 150 Power and the Intimidate ability lowers opponents’ Attack, making it a powerful addition to your team.
7. Feraligatr
Feraligatr is in a difficult situation. It has a slow speed, which prevents it from attacking before numerous opponents. Its defensive stats, on the other hand, are adequate and allow it to resist a significant amount of damage. It has a decent Attack, but it doesn’t learn any Physical Water moves until it reaches a high level, restricting its Water potential to Special attacks that rely on its less impressive Special Attack stat. It does, however, learn Physical moves from a variety of different types that make use of its large Attack. Feraligatr, like the other beginning Pokémon in Johto, is deserving of a Mega Evolution. It would be considerably more potent if it were to obtain one.
6. Milotic
Depending on which game you’re playing, this unique creature evolves from the super-ugly Feebas, either by maximizing its beauty with Poffins or by making it hold a Prism Scale while leveling up. Milotic has an extraordinarily high Sp. Defense and great HP, in addition to being quite beautiful. All of this is enhanced with a formidable Special Attack, which is best utilized by teaching the gorgeous beast Hydro Pump via a TM. Seeing how something as ordinary as Feebas may transform into a sublime Milotic is enough to inspire anyone to aspire to be their best self.
5. Lapras
With a Gigantamax form, Lapras is more spectacular than ever. Players were so desperate for Gigantamax Lapras that a code was given out as a bonus for attending the Winter 2020 World Hobby Fair. This tanky water-dino has been a staple in competitive Pokemon for years, and with this new form, it will continue to be so. The Water/Ice dual-type of Lapras grants it access to both Hydro Pump and Ice Beam, a powerful combination that would overwhelm most opponents. In the late game, Sheer Cold, which assures a faint on the rare occasions it hits, and Perish Song, which kills the target in three turns, are both good choices.
4. Mega Blastoise
Blastoise is one of the better Water starter Pokémon’s final evolutions on its own. As a result, it would be one of the franchise’s most powerful pure Water-types. However, with a Mega Evolution, this Pokémon outperforms the great majority of Water-type Pokémon. Mega Blastoise retains and even improves its outstanding defensive numbers, while its HP and Speed remain unchanged. It really shines thanks to its significantly higher Special Attack stat. Water Pulse’s Mega Launcher ability boosts the potency of Aura and Pulse moves, making it more viable and devastating.
3. Swampert
Swampert is widely viewed as one of the best starter evolutions available. It debuted in Generation 3 as the third evolution of the beloved Mudkip, and it instantly became a favorite. Swampert has the best initial total stats (535), but its most notable feature is its dual Water/Ground typing, which makes it immune to Electricity and resistant to Poison, Rock, Steel, and Fire. The single weakness it possesses is Grass, which is an x4 weakness, therefore trainers should avoid utilizing it in battle against Grass-type opponents.
2. Greninja
Greninja, the most recent addition to the series, is a charming Water-type starter and one of the most well-known Pokémon in general. Its Attack and Sp. Attack are both extremely high, but its speed is ridiculous. This ensures that you get at least one lethal move in before your opponents. It not only appears in the anime as one of Ash’s Pokémon, but it also appears alongside Pikachu in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
1. Kyogre (Primal Form)
Kyogre, like Blastoise, was a formidable fight before gaining a new form and becoming the box art Legendary for Pokémon Sapphire. However, after the release of its Primal Reversion, it became nearly unstoppable. Its only significant flaw is its defense, which is still quite good. The attacking numbers of Primal Kyogre are ridiculously high, and its Primordial Sea ability causes torrential rain to fall on the battlefield, increasing its Water moves even more. Primal Kyogre is a Legendary who can easily annihilate teams, therefore no enemy should be caught in his path.
