1. Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite’s in-game weapon spawns, large maps, and time-to-kill set it apart from fast-paced shooters, making it a worthy nostalgia trip and traditional arena-shooter experience.
2. Valorant
Players acquainted with CS:GO will recognise the gameplay: five-player teams begin the match assaulting or defending, then switch roles halfway through; players must also purchase weapons at the start of each round, earning currency based on their previous round’s performance. Valorant, on the other hand, allows players to select from a roster of agents, each with their own set of powers that they may purchase each round and one that they get for free. Each Valorant character has their own set of strategic advantages and disadvantages; some excel at protecting sites, while others coordinate pushes or secure kills.
3. Apex Legends
There seemed to be a new battle royale every month during the time Apex Legends was released, but this one remained with gamers, as seen by the game’s 100 million players in April of this year. The game’s distinctive selling point is that players can choose from a variety of characters known as Legends. They all have unique skills, which adds to the game’s appeal even before the action begins. A new Legend, a new gun, a new battle pass, and a ranked version of Arenas were all launched at the time of writing. It’s also still free to play.
4. Fortnite
Fortnite wasn’t the game that started the battle royale craze in gaming, but it did popularise it. It also allowed creators the ability to profit from the battle pass and multiple seasons in the game. While you may believe the game isn’t as popular as it was when it first came out, the numbers show otherwise. The Travis Scott event drew 12.3 million concurrent gamers in April of last year. When 15.3 concurrent gamers turned in for the Galactus event eight months later, that record was beaten by 3 million. Despite the numerous additions to the game since its first release in 2017, the basic principle remains the same, making it ideal for playing online with friends or strangers.
5. Valheim
You and nine other people are dropped into Viking Hell with nothing but a loincloth on their backs, and it’s up to you and them to survive the Norse wilderness by crafting, building, and finally surviving. As skeletons from the swamp attack your base, wolves track you over mountains, and greydwarves hurl rocks at you in the dark forest, Valheim’s landscape becomes progressively menacing. Valheim is a fantastic multiplayer game with something for everyone, including scavenging for materials, epic battles with Valheim bosses, and building a strong fortress that can withstand a troll club strike.
6. Counter Strike: Global Offensive
While CS:GO is currently the de facto way to play this Terrorists vs. Counter-Terrorists FPS on PC, it began as an updated console port. There are no respawns during rounds in CS:GO, so if you die, all you can do is watch and pray that your team successfully detonates/defuses the explosives or rescues/retains the hostages. Each map has been painstakingly designed to allow for a variety of tactics demanding varied levels of expertise, and the beautifully modelled firearms in your vast armoury all have subtle differences in firing rates and recoil that can only be learnt through practise.
7. Grand Theft Auto: Online
GTA: V has been around for a long time, but thanks to the frequent online updates, it has remained one of the most popular games in the world. Because of the debut of the PlayStation 5 version of the game, it doesn’t appear that the game will be going anywhere anytime soon. So, despite the fact that the game was released in 2013, it’s not too late to hop in and start doing some heists and racing.
8. Call of Duty: Warzone
Warzone was released directly in the middle of the pandemic, which couldn’t have come at a better time for the developers or the players. While the game is presently receiving a lot of flak for lacking a good anti-cheat mechanism, it appears that this will change with future updates. We don’t know whether or not Modern Warfare and Cold War guns will still be available, but it’s worthwhile to take the ride regardless. The game will remain free to play as well.
9. Destiny 2
Destiny 2 checks all the boxes when it comes to the greatest multiplayer games, whether you want to team up for massive PvE raids, fight it out in PvP, or blend elements of both in PvPvE. Destiny 2 is better than ever after a few years, with the Forsaken expansion resolving a number of flaws and a free-to-play launch on Steam introducing the game to new players.
10. War Thunder
In aerial dogfights, huge tank engagements, and naval skirmishes, War Thunder is a free-to-play multiplayer game about military vehicles knocking seven bells out of one another. That pitch may sound similar, but no free MMO has come close to matching War Thunder in terms of quality, balancing, and the sheer number of vehicles available to acquire. While the multiplayer game began with a basic set of aircraft and ground vehicles familiar from World War II games, it has since grown to include a diverse range of aircraft and ground vehicles.
