Best Championship XI of the week featuring Sheffield Wednesday duo

With another exciting week of EFL Championship football action behind us, let’s take a look as to who makes the cut to the Team of the Week.

GK: Christian Walton (Wigan Athletic)

The 22-year-old produced four stops as the Latics edged past Rotherham United 1-0, to keep his second clean sheet of the season. His vital contribution helped Wigan jump up to the 10th place in the table, with ten points from six games.

RB: Pawel Olkowski (Bolton Wanderers)

Bolton came back from being two goals down to take home a point against Preston North End, and Olkowski’s influence on the result was immense. The 28-year-old assisted the first goal for Sammy Ameobi, before finding the back of the net to draw his team level, while producing a number of tackles and clearances at the back.

CB: Michael Morrison (Birmingham City)

Birmingham can’t seem to get a win at the moment but 30-year-old Michael Morrison ensured his team came away with a point against QPR, with a dominant display at the back. The defender won as many as 10 aerial duels, helping his team secure their second clean sheet of the campaign.

CB: Toni Leistner (QPR)

While Morrison did the job for Birmingham at one end, Toni Leistner was equally solid for QPR as the two teams played out a goalless draw. The German won 10 aerial battles on the day while making the second-highest number of passes in the game with 80% accuracy.

LB: Jamal Lewis (Norwich City)

The 20-year-old was one of Norwich’s most impressive players as they came back to draw 1-1 against Ipswich Town this weekend. Lewis put in a commendable display defensively, winning the most number of tackles (6) and making the most number of interceptions (3) in the game.

RW: Sammy Ameobi (Bolton Wanderers)

It was the 26-year-old who sparked Bolton’s comeback against Preston despite being two goals down early in the game, netting the first goal for the visitors. The former Newcastle United man attempted and completed the most number of dribbles in the game and was an effective outlet down the right for Phil Parkinson’s side.

CM: Oliver Norwood (Sheffield United)

The Blades romped home to a 4-1 win over Aston Villa and Norwood, 27, had a huge hand in the result. The midfielder assisted the opening goal for Jack O’Connell just six minutes into the game, before sealing chipping in with Sheffield United’s third goal four minutes before half-time.

CM: Adam Reach (Sheffield Wednesday)

The Owls continued their great run of form with a 2-1 win over Reading and the 25-year-old Adam Reach was at the heart of the victory for Jos Luhukay’s side. The midfielder bagged the opening goal for Wednesday just 12 minutes into the game, before setting up his teammate Lucas Joao for the second goal.

LW: Lucas Joao (Sheffield Wednesday)

Lucas Joao

The 24-year-old Portuguese notched up his third goal of the campaign for Wednesday, continuing his good run of form. Apart from scoring the goal, Joao was a handful for the Royals’ defenders as he completed the most number of dribbles in the game while making two key passes.

ST: Callum Robinson (Preston North End)

It just took 11 minutes for the 23-year-old to open the scoring for Preston against Bolton – marking his first goal of the season. Robinson was a constant threat for the visitors, as he attempted the most number of shots in the game (5) and played three key passes while completing the second-highest number of dribbles just behind Ameobi.

ST: Dwight Gayle (West Bromwich Albion)

The former Newcastle United man single-handedly fired the Baggies to a 2-1 triumph over Stoke City, leading the way with two goals. An all-around performance from Gayle, who had finished as the second-highest goal-scorer in the Championship a couple of seasons ago.
