3rd seed Stefanos Tsitsipas faces 15th seed Jannik Sinner in what promises to be an intriguing third-round clash in the 2023 Australian Open on Sunday.
The Greek sensation made it to the semis last year at the Australian Open and has also played some scintillating tennis this year. He is yet to drop a set in the three matches he has played so far in the 2023 Australian Open.
Tsitsipas began his campaign in the Australian Open with a solid outing against Quentin Halys. The match ended 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) in favor of the world No. 4. Tsitsipas went on to make light work of Rinky Hijikata in the second round as he won the encounter 6-3, 6-0, 6-2. In the third round, Tsitsipas faced an in-form Tallon Griekspoor. The Dutchman only managed to give Tsitsipas a tough time in one of the three sets that he lost. The match ended 6-2, 7-6 (7-6), 6-3.
Tennis fans know the kind of quality that Sinner possesses. He is one win away from reaching back-to-back quarterfinals at the Australian Open.
The 21-year-old picked up comfortable wins against Kyle Edmund and Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the first and second rounds respectively. Sinner won both those matches in straight sets. In the third round, Sinner showed his class as he came back from a couple of sets down to defeat Marton Fucsovics 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0.
