Koolhof and Skupski faced the Australian duo of Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios in their first match. The top-seeded team came back from a set down to win the match 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 10-5. In their second match in Turin, Koolhof and Skupski were handed a thrashing by Mate Pavic and Nikola Mektic. The Croatian duo won the match in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (7-3). In a do-or-die encounter, Skupski and Koolhof edged past Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek 7-5, 4-6, 10-6.

These two teams faced each other very recently at the 2022 US Open final.
