Why Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson is currently the best left-back in the Premier League

Liverpool snapped up Andrew Robertson for a meagre fee of £8million two years ago and he has since gone to play a sensational role for the club. Coming into the team after a resurgent Alberto Moreno succumbed to injury, Andy Robertson seamlessly established himself into Klopp’s plans, nailing down the left-back spot for the rest of the season.

The Reds’ left-back issues were immediately solved with Robertson’s presence on the field. He has definitely come a long way since facing relegation with Hull City.

The 24-year-old started the game against West Ham United last weekend and instantly picked up an assist for Liverpool’s first goal which was scored by usual suspect Mohamed Salah. Robertson is a diligent and committed defender who rarely looks out of place.

He’s fast on the ball and a hard man to beat in one-on-one situations. Robertson is infamous for his pressing charges down the left side, making him a solid attacking threat as well. All in all, the Scot is an agile and strong defender who can win the ball back in almost every situation.

Furthermore, Robertson’s ability to read the game is top-class. Not once has he noticeably been caught up front, as he often uses his impressive work rate to raid up and down the field. In fact, Robertson would be a menacing prospect for any attacker playing against his side. He’s a relentless defender that just won’t let go and his determination is absolutely commendable.

Also, his ability to support the attack is extremely unique yet resourceful. The Scot is brilliant at timing his runs and whipping in crosses for Liverpool’s front-three to feed off. With Robertson on the left side, Sadio Mane’s game has gone up a notch as well.

At the moment, it doesn’t look like anybody can trump Robertson in the Premier League. He’s just on another level and there’s no chance Moreno can make it back into the squad. Regardless, Robertson must gear up and put in another incredible performance for this weekend’s showdown against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
