Why Aston Villa should hold onto Trezeguet amidst Galatasaray interest
According to Turkish newspaper Sabah (h/t Birmingham Mail), Galatasaray are interested in signing Aston Villa winger Trezeguet.
The 25-year-old Egyptian was signed by Villa boss Dean Smith for a sum of £9million last summer but has failed to nail down a spot. He has made a total of 31 appearances across all competitions for the Villans.
Despite being brought into the Villa side to bolster the squad’s options after gaining promotion to the Premier League, Trezeguet has managed only 13 league starts this season. The Egyptian wide-man has mostly been fighting with Anwar El Ghazi for a starting spot.
However, Trezeguet has still managed to score four goals and three assists, with one of his goals sealing a dramatic semifinal win for the Villans over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.
Trezeguet played the best football of his career whilst at Kasimpasa, featuring 71 times for them across two seasons and racking up 25 goals and 18 assists. However, the Egyptian has not been able to emulate his performances in England.
Villa should keep more faith in Trezeguet
Like Trezeguet, it has been a rather difficult season for PL newcomers Villa. Despite gaining entry to the top-flight just last summer, they look increasingly close to relegation back to the Championship, with the side currently lying just one spot ahead of bottom placers Norwich City.
Villa have won just seven of their 28 league outings. They have three wingers in their side including Trezeguet, Ghazi and Jota.
Smith, who was left unimpressed by the three, had to even rely on skipper and attacking midfielder Jack Grealish to play across the flanks. However, Grealish has emerged as his side’s best player this season so far, scoring seven goals and giving six assists, forcing Smith to constantly deploy him on the wings.
With Grealish enjoying rare individual success unlike his club, many rivals including Manchester United have now shown an interest in him. The Englishman’s uncertain future at the club leaves Smith with just Trezeguet, Ghazi and Jota as the side’s established wingers.
Given such a situation and considering Villa’s volatile state in the top-flight, it would be foolish to let go of Trezeguet, who just arrived last summer.
Rather, Smith and the Villans should keep faith in him and offer the Egyptian more game time in the coming days. Hence, Villa should keep him as they are at such a crucial juncture.

Verdict
Considering Villa’s displays in the league this term, it is obvious the side lacks depth on the wings. Hence, it would be wise of them to hold onto Trezeguet. A proven performer in the past, Trezeguet just needs some more time and could prove to be handy for the Villans next season if he finds his form.
