Aston Villa Opinion: Why Dean Smith should make a move for Bradley Dack?

According to a report from The Sun, Aston Villa and Brighton are interested in signing Blackburn Rovers star Bradley Dack this summer.

The 25-year-old midfielder was one of the standout players for Blackburn Rovers last season, as the Championship outfit finished 15th in the table. Dack, who moved to Ewood Park from Gillingham in 2017, ended the 2018/19 campaign with 18 goals which should make it difficult for Rovers to ward off any potential suitors.

That being said, Aston Villa must do everything possible to beat Brighton to Dack’s signature this summer.

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is looking to significantly strengthen his squad in the transfer market, following their promotion to the top-flight via the Championship play-off final. The newly-promoted club have already signed Jota from Birmingham City on a two-year contract, with Gary Gardener going in the opposite direction as part of the swap deal.

But the Villans need more than Jota in their attack next season, considering that on-loan Tammy Abraham, who was the club’s top scorer during the promotion success, is unlikely to be signed on a permanent basis  from the Blues. Moreover, the club has released Albert Adomah and are yet to turn Anwar El Ghazi’s loan deal permanent from Lille.

That’s why the signing of Bradley Dack would make sense. He made 42 appearances in the Championship this past season, which reflects his importance to Blackburn Rovers. He was undoubtedly Rovers’ best player with 18 goals and 10 assists in all competitions. This shows the creative edge the 25-year-old can potentially add to Smith’s side, as Dack is definitely at his sublime best with the ball at his feet.

The ex-Gillingham man is the creative playmaker Villa have lacked for a few years, and offers something different to Jack Grealish. He is someone who can come in and instantly make a difference for Smith’s side, whilst adding depth to the squad. The playmaker is not afraid to take on his marker and try beating them on the dribble to create openings for others or conjure up a goal-scoring attempt for himself.

Dack will also add plenty of goals to the Villa side that was majorly dependent on Tammy Abraham’s contributions. All in all, he is too good for Championship football and appears more than capable of making the step up to the Premier League.

Verdict

However, Dack needs to be more consistent with his performances if he wants to prove his value in the Premier League. At 25, he is about to embark upon the peak years of his playing career which Aston Villa could look to benefit from over the next few campaigns.
