Why Aston Villa should make a move for Jimmy Durmaz this summer?

Scottish midfielder John McGinn has been one of the few bright sparks in an Aston Villa season that has so far failed to deliver.

McGinn, 24, joined Aston Villa from Hibernian last summer and his performances in the Championship thus far has been enough to catch the attention of some bigger clubs, with Premier League outfit Leicester City keen on acquiring his services in the summer, reports the Daily Mirror.

It would be difficult for the Midlands club to keep hold of the Scotsman if Leicester come calling in the summer. The lure to play in the Premier League is very tough to turn down and while Villa will do everything to keep hold of their prized asset, Dean Smith should start planning potential summer targets from now on.

Aston Villa have had a poor season according to their standards and lie 11th in the table, although they are just six points adrift of the final play-off position. There is still a chance for the Midlands outfit to clinch a play-off berth but it looks as if Smith will realistically target promotion next season.

It’ll take time for Smith to build a squad capable of achieving promotion and the players, as well as the board, have to be patient. That’s why holding onto McGinn will be a key for Villa due to the creative Scotsman’s stellar impact in his very first season in English football. Also, one of the important tasks in the summer will be to strengthen the attack and Smith should make a move for Toulouse star Jimmy Durmaz.

Jimmy Durmaz, 29, has had a decent season with Toulouse so far, notching up three goals in 26 Ligue 1 outings. He has been used in a variety of positions by manager Alain Casanova and the 29-year-old has done very well for the French outfit.

The Swede is a versatile player who can operate in different positions across the midfield and the attack. Durmaz is a skilful customer who backs his ability to beat his marker with tricks and pace. Calm and composed in possession, the 29-year-old is a good dribbler of the ball, excellent in tackling and distribution, works extremely hard for the team and has a peach of a left foot.

The former Olympiakos star’s addition in the summer would give a different flavour to Villa’s attack, whilst being an influential figure in the dressing room. As a player with volumes of experience in international football, Aston Villa would bag a real coup in Durmaz.
