Why Arsenal would be smart to appoint Carlo Ancelotti

Arsenal are on alert as Carlo Ancelotti is on the verge of facing the axe after a string of poor performances at Napoli, as per reports from Metro.

Arsenal, having endured a horrible start to the season, sacked Unai Emery as the head coach, following a 2-1 defeat at home to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League. In the Premier League, they are struggling in the 10th spot with just 19 points in 15 games.

Napoli, on the other hand, have struggled too. After finishing second behind Juventus in Ancelotti’s first season in charge, they have found it tough to get going this season. They have picked up 20 points from a possible 42 and are languishing in 7th place.

Ancelotti, having already managed Chelsea, has tasted success in the Premier League. He did the double by winning the league title and FA Cup with them. Although he was sacked at the end of his second season, he left the league with the third-highest win percentage for all managers. He is also a title-winner in 5 different countries, having won the league with AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Ancelotti is a master tactician, who tends to get the best out of his players. Players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Arjen Robben and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have performed outstandingly under his guidance.

His style of play is very organized and opponents usually find it extremely difficult to break his teams down. In the ongoing campaign, the Gunners have let in 23 goals in 15 games already. Their defence seems to lack confidence and if not for goalkeeper Bernd Leno, Arsenal would have been in a worse position.

The German shot-stopper has saved Arsenal numerous times after shambolic defending by his teammates. Thus, Anchelotti’s arrival would be a major blessing at the Emirates.

Ancelotti also has a tendency to attract top players across the world. He made a name for himself at Real Madrid and PSG and has worked closely with Columbia star James Rodriguez at Real Madrid.

However, the trend in the Premier League has changed lately and clubs have started appointing former players as managers as they know the club inside-out.

The past year has seen Ole Gunnar Solskjaer head Manchester United and Frank Lampard take up the role at Chelsea. Freddie Ljungberg too was appointed as the interim head coach at Arsenal. Former player Mikel Arteta has been linked with a move to Arsenal as well.

Verdict

In Carlo Ancelotti, Arsenal would have a proven manager who has found his feet in various leagues across Europe. He has also shown that he can change the fortunes of clubs he manages.

Arsenal, right now, are in total shambles and appointing Ancelotti as their next manager is a no-brainer. The Gunners are also experiencing a title drought and Carlo Ancelotti would be the right man to lead the charge.
