Why Arsenal should target FC Porto star Yacine Brahimi in the summer

ESPN has revealed that Serie A giants AC Milan and Inter Milan are all set to battle for Porto star Yacine Brahimi in the summer. The 28-year-old has been in fine form for the Portuguese side but more so, his contract is expiring at the end of the season.

There have been no talks of an extension so far when in regards to the winger. Now Arsenal have been linked with him, the Gunners should look towards beating the Italian giants in signing the Algerian international.

The Premier League giants were linked with a move at the start of January according to ESPN, but nothing materialized with only Denis Suarez arriving on loan. Furthermore, towards the end of the winter window, the Gunners were linked with moves for Yannick Carrasco and Ivan Perisic, but once again nothing materialized. If there was one position Arsenal need strengthening after defence – it is in the wide attacking areas.

The Gunners currently only have Alex Iwobi as their sole wide player, hence, it is clear that they need a winger. Adding a player like Brahimi, despite the fact that he’ll turn 29 in three days, is worth the bargain. It is especially due to the fact that he will be a free agent come the summer window.

Calciomercato have reported that Arsenal have joined the race once again, and given the 28-year-old’s skill-set, it shouldn’t come as a surprise. Direct, and with a lot of pace to burn, the Algerian man would be a great replacement for Danny Welbeck, whose contract expires at the end of this season. His eye for goal is not bad either, scoring a good amount of goals in every season.

The latter simply adds to his value for Arsenal and while he will take some time to adjust to the Premier League, the 28-year-old’s pace and agility will help make the transition easier. If anything else, Yacine Brahimi is a definite upgrade over Alex Iwobi. The Nigerian international is a big part of Arsenal’s future, but Unai Emery needs someone more reliable.

However, with both the Milan giants in the race, things could get complicated for Arsenal, meaning either a move needs to be made now or the Gunners need to be quick in negotiations during the summer window.
