Arsenal Opinion: Youssef En-Nesyri could prove to be a good long-term investment for the Gunners

According to the Daily Star, Arsenal are interested in signing CD Leganes hitman Youssef En-Nesyri in the summer transfer window, with reports claiming that Gunners have made a formal approach to sign the 22-year-old Moroccan international.

Daily Star understands that Leganes value their prized asset at around £9 million, having spent a club record £5.2 million to sign him from fellow La Liga outfit Malaga last summer.

The same report claims that En-Nesyri is tempted by the prospect of representing Arsenal in the Premier League but the Gunners would need to fend off interest from La Liga outfit Real Betis in their pursuit of the emerging Moroccan star.

A 4-1 defeat at the hands of London rivals Chelsea in the Europa League final last week meant that Arsenal missed out on qualification to the Champions League for the upcoming season.

Arsenal showed plenty of promise in their first season under Emery but the lack of depth in their squad was apparent, with the manager struggling to find the right personnel to implement his tactics.

Vulnerability at the back was one of the biggest talking points from Arsenal’s campaign in the Premier League this past season and bringing in defensive reinforcements is likely to be high on the Spaniard’s recruitment list.

While the Gunners definitely need to bring in a new centre-back and a left-back, they also need to find replacements for Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck, with both the players set to depart on free transfers.

Welbeck only played a bit-part role under Emery before being sidelined with a long-term injury, with the likes of Alexandre Lazazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang firing all guns blazing in front of goal, but Arsenal still need a back-up striker to fill in the void. And La Liga hotshot Youssef En-Nesyri certainly fits the bill.

To put things into perspective, Arsenal do not have millions to throw around in the transfer window this time around and the acquisition of the 22-year-old could prove to be a bargain for the Gunners.

There are few better than Emery when it comes to pouncing on bargain deals in the market, as evident from the arrival of Matteo Guendouzi last summer, and the Gunners could have another gem on their hands if the Moroccan goes on to realise his potential at North London.

En-Nesyri scored 11 goals in 34 outings for Leganes across all competitions this past season and his talent and potential have been there for everybody to witness.

Standing at 6ft. 2 inches with a towering and well-built frame, Youssef En-Nesyri has carved out a reputation for himself as an emerging target man in Spanish football.

A fast and agile striker with good physical attributes and exceptional aerial ability, the 22-year-old is very nimble with his footwork and has the tactical intelligence to get into the right positions inside the box to score goals.

Noted for his two-footed nature as a striker, En-Nesyri not only poses a threat in the air but he is also very much capable of holding the ball with his back to goal.

The Moroccan is adept at using short and quick exchanges to link up with his teammates in and around the penalty area, whilst his fearless, powerful and accurate shooting can ask plenty of questions of the opposition.

En-Nesyri, who has 6 goals in 21 international appearances for Morocco, showed a glimpse of his brilliance in the World Cup last summer when he came off the bench as a substitute to score against Spain in the group stages.

He is still very much in the developmental stage of his career and the prospect of playing in the Premier League and furthering his development under Emery should appeal to the player.
