Why Arsenal must return for Odsonne Edouard in January

According to Football.LondonArsenal could retry to sign Odsonne Edouard in January next year. The Gunners conducted some good business in the recently concluded summer transfer window where they brought in the likes of Gabriel Magalhaes, Willian and topped it all off with Thomas Partey.

The 22-year-old French forward started out his youth career at Paris St. Germain in 2011, he quickly climbed up through the youth levels to be promoted to the senior side in 2016.

However, he was immediately sent on loan to Toulouse, where he struggled for game time and made only 17 appearances. On his return, he was again sent on loan, this time at Celtic. The Scottish side were impressed with his performances and decided to make the deal permanent the following season. Edouard moved to Celtic without featuring even once for PSG.

At Celtic, he has developed into one the most prolific forwards with 66 goals and 32 assists in just 136 games (source – Transfermarkt). He has been a regular in the France youth teams and is currently a part of the U-21s with 11 goals in 6 games.

Arsenal should try to sign Edouard in January

While Arsenal have a decent stock of forwards in the squad, apart from Aubameyang, no one scores goals on a regular basis. Even Aubameyang’s form has taken a bit of a hit this season, with the forward not looking at his usual best.

Alexandre Lacazette has a habit of blowing hot and cold through a season and Eddie Nketiah is far too young to be a regular starter and leading the line. This is where the signing of Odsonne Edouard comes into play.

The Frenchman was a target of the club last summer (source – Metro) and they would be wise enough to reignite their interest in the free-scoring forward. His ability to score goals at such a high frequency is what will appeal to Arteta the most.

If the club were to get him, it would ease a lot of the goalscoring pressure on captain Aubameyang. Edouard won’t be easy to prise away from the Scottish giants but Arsenal need to go past that and do all they can to secure a player who can keep the goals flowing. A January move should be on the priority list for the Gunners.
