Why Arsenal signing Pau Torres would be a great long-term investment

According to Express, Arsenal have shown interest towards Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres. However, Real Madrid are said to be the preferred side for Torres. The Gunners are looking to add to their options in defence after letting go of William Saliba and Sokratis.

Arsenal need another decent centre-back

When Arsenal wrapped up their transfer window having signed the likes of Willian, Gabriel Magalhaes and Thomas Partey, it seemed that they had gotten it right. Though they struggled initially, the Gunners now seem to be back on track.

The defence looks stable now as the club have kept 4 clean sheets in the last 5 league games. Though Arsenal have a huge contingent of central defenders, only a handful can say that they are quality players. The likes of Shkodran Mustafi and David Luiz have been too error-prone in the past to warrant more chances and they hamper the side’s performances.

They also let William Saliba leave on loan and terminated Sokratis’ contract. While the upturn in Rob Holding’s form is a good sign, they could still do with another established name at the back. Especially when you consider how injury-prone Pablo Mari has been.

Pau Torres can be a long-term solution for Arsenal

Villarreal’s Pau Torres should be close to what they want. The Spaniard has made huge strides in the last few seasons, which has led to speculation about his future. His stock is rising after each passing game and rightfully so. Torres can be the ideal partner for Gabriel to shore up the defence and give the team some stability.
