Why Arsenal must plot a summer swoop for Brentford’s Said Benrahma

According to the Telegraph, Arsenal are interested in signing Brentford attacker Said Benrahma in the summer.

The Algerian, 24, has had an impressive season and been one of the driving forces behind Brentford’s push for promotion to the Premier League. The winger has been one of the Championship’s standout players this season, recording 10 goals and five assists in 32 appearances. Said Benrahma also won the PFA Fan’s Player of the Month for January.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have an exciting attack, with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe, Gabriel Martinelli and Mesut Ozil more than capable of destroying any team on their day in the Premier League. Yet, they have only managed 38 goals in 27 games.

Aubameyang is Arsenal’s top scorer this season 19 goals across all competitions. However, the Gabonese forward will have just one year left on his current deal when the season ends. Certainly, Arsenal would not want to risk losing their top scorer for free if he refuses to renew his contract.

As per a report from FC Inter (h/t The Sun), Inter Milan will target Aubameyang if they lose Lautaro Martinez in the summer. As Aubameyang will turn 31 in June and is yet to commit his future at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal must sell him in the summer before his transfer value drops. And the north London giants would be wise to replace the Gabonese by signing Said Benrahma.

Benrahma joined Brentford from OGC Nice in 2018 and enjoyed an eye-catching first season in English football, providing 14 assists – the most in the Championship last term. He bagged 11 goals in 2018/19 and has enhanced his reputation further with 10 goals and five assists this term.

The Algerian international has proven himself in the Championship while amassing enough experience in the English second-tier. His versatility across different attacking positions would be capable of bringing about a healthy competition for places within the Arsenal ranks.

Verdict

Hence, Arsenal must not think twice before attempting to sign Benrahma from Brentford in the summer.
