Why Arsenal should beat Man United to sign Che Adams next summer

According to the Mirror, Manchester United and Arsenal have joined the race to sign 22-year-old striker Che Adams from Birmingham City.

The in-form centre-forward was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League after a successful season in the Championship but Garry Monk’s side turned down Burnley’s £9 million offer during the January transfer window. (h/t Mirror)

With Premier League giants Man United and Arsenal now in the list of admirers for the young striker, one can expect his value to rocket sky-high in the summer transfer window. The move, if it materializes, will represent a monumental rise for a footballer who made his way through the ranks of non-league football in England.

Born in Leicester, Adams played for non-league sides Oadby Town and Ilkeston before being snapped up by League One outfit Sheffield United in 2014. A successful stint in the third tier earned him a move to Championship side Birmingham City in 2016 and Adams hasn’t looked back since then, amassing 35 goals and 12 assists from 109 appearances for the Blues across all competitions.

While pace is his greatest asset as a centre-forward, Adams has proved that he is far from a one-trick pony and he has a lot more in his repertoire of skills. His blistering pace combined with his directness to run at defences and physical attributes to shrug off challenges make him a potent threat in the final third.

Blessed with the natural instincts of a centre-forward, Adams likes to use his pace and power to make runs behind the opposition’s backline. A sharp and agile striker with quick feet, Adams has the ability to leave the defenders for dead with sharp turns, giving himself a better chance of getting the angles right in front of goal. Furthermore, he has already shown his ability to find the back of the net with crisp left-footed strikes from inside as well as outside the box.

To put things into perspective, a move to any mid-table side in the Premier League would certainly guarantee him adequate playtime but Adams might turn out to be a useful back-up striker for the likes of Man United and Arsenal. In fact, Arsenal can bag a massive coup by beating their Premier League rivals to sign Adams next summer.

Arsenal have relied heavily on the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette for goals this season, with the duo contributing with 25 goals in the Premier League so far. The Gunners have endured a season filled with highs and lows under Unai Emery and they will need some transfer activity next summer to reshape their squad.

Arsenal need another centre-forward to take the pressure off Lacazette and Aubameyang and Che Adams certainly fits the bill. In all honesty, he would be an ideal replacement for someone like Danny Welbeck who is out of contract at the end of the season.
